Don't know if these are close-ups of the gator, but since this story somehow got in the photo forum, I've added them in. They're found at a story from another site (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.tampabays10.com/assetpool/images/055119349_gator.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.tampabays10.com/news/local/article.aspx%3Fstoryid%3D31293&h=132&w=175&sz=22&tbnid=6I4IL3vsjTcXaM:&tbnh=71&tbnw=95&hl=en&start=9&prev=/images%3Fq%3DCandy%2BFrey%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%2 6lr%3D%26rls%3DGGLG,GGLG:2006-07,GGLG:en%26sa%3DN) covering the same incident.

BRADENTON, Fla.
A woman has shot an alligator that came into her home and attacked her dog.
The alligator was only 3 feet long, but Candy Frey wasn't taking any chances. When the reptile came into the lanai of her home east of Bradenton Saturday and attacked her golden retriever, Frey went and got her gun.
After Frey and her daughter managed to push the gator out of the lanai through the dog door, she blasted away at it four times.

She got a "warning citation" for hunting without a license.
HUNTING?
Cripes the bloody Gator attacked her dog and invaded her home, it was a dangerous PEST!
She wasnt 'hunting' it, she was ridding society of a dangerous carnivore that might have someday invaded a persons home and went after someones toddler or Infant!!
Dumbshits!!

If I heard correctly, the Keystone Kop should not have given the woman any type of citation, according to the police station, and the ticket was retrieved. But I can't find anything on that now. It was only a "warning" against hunting without a license. HUH?!
Dumbass doughnut eater, I guess. A real police officer should have been sent to investigate.

Hmmmm, Three Feet! She should have gotten a purse, several pairs of shoes, belts and a head for mounting out of that gator!

Rink, if a gator attacks Fido, you've gotta go down to the place where they sell hunting licenses (sporting goods? police station?), fork over the fee, let them do a background check (this might take a few days, so you might wanna tell Fido to hang in there), take an approved safety course, get yer license, get yer ammo (if you ain't got it already, that is), and come back and rescue the pooch.
Good luck. :D
Poetic Justice:
Put the stupid idiot "police officer" and a 10-foot gator in a 40'x40' cage and lock the door. Make sure the gator is real hungry. Punish the stupid idiot "police officer" to the fullest extent of the law when he shoots the gator to defend himsELF.
Then fire the moron from the police force and permanently ban him from ever holding a government job of any sort again. It is an insult that taxpayers have to pay his salary.

If thats their policy then where's the 'animal rights' activists??? When dogs get killed by gators..... oyea thats right those 'animal rights' whackos would be out there protesting the shooting of the gator instead of the policy to allow gators to kill dogs instead.
Any gator that would go after a large dog would also in MY eyes go after a toddler or infant as well.
Sumtin wrong with all these gator attacks in Florida, and the only thing i can think of is that when Florida had its last Hurricane season those hurricaines took out much of the gators natural foodsources so they're goin after the next best thing, pets and people.
Just my 0.02 cents worth on it
(Yea I know this is the season where gators get aggressive but still, one hasnt seen this kind of numerous gator attacks of this sort in the news in a long time, Unless it used to be just a local phenomenon of a few and thats it.)

I'm just glad I don't live in gator country, though there are enough rattlesnakes and other critters out in the woods around here to make things all too interesting. Still, the two-legged varmints worry me more than anything else.

Its gatorland around here. A little more active season, but not that much. The warning though is a joke.

I lived in AZ 27 years and gators scare me more than all the snakes, scorpions, and spiders out there. If I got cited for shooting one, I'd fight it tooth and nail!

The warning citation does not surprise me one bit. When I lived in Michigan, they put in a "Bicycle/Pedestrian" trail along side 16 Mile Road (Metropolitan Parkway). This is a split, 4 lane road, quite busy, and the speed limit on it was 50 mph. The road eventually ended at the gates of Metropolitan Beach. So a lot of people rode bicycles down it, and a lot of people walked down the shoulder quite frequently in the summer. So they put in the bike trail for those reasons. A woman who is disabled, had her electric wheel chair, riding down the trail while family members walked beside her. A Police Officer driving down 16 mile road saw her, pulled over, jumped the barbed wire fence that separated the road and the trail, and ordered her to turn the chairs power off, and the chair had to be PUSHED off the trail, because there were no motorized vehicles allowed on the bike trail. And she was fined. No written warning, she was given a MOVING VIOLATION!
In Ohio, near my grandmothers house in Dayton, they had recently put in new parking meters on a busy street full of shops. Well, people had been parking there for years for free, so at the beginning of the "parking meter era" for that street, there were a lot of expired parking meters. And of course, the helpful city of Dayton decided to have 2 officers stationed on that street at all time just watching the meters so the second one expires, they can have the ticket on that windshield to start raking in all the cash they're gonna make from their new scam.
A 78 year old lady saw the cops walking up and down the street checking meters, and checking their watches, so she decided to help the citizens out a little, and pulled out her change purse, and went meter to meter putting quarters in, to give the people parked there a little more time.
She was handcuffed, and eventually released, but not without her fine and summons to appear in court on a charge of "Obstruction Of Justice".
So is it that far fetched to think that some piece of shit cop would give a woman a hunting ticket for defending her own home, pets, and quite possibly her life? Granted, the gator was only 3 feet, but have you ever been bitten by a 3 foot crock? Size doesn't matter when teeth break the skin. Pain is pain, and a 3 foot crock can kill you as efficiently as an 8 foot crock if he gets a hold of you in the right place.

That Handicapped woman had ANY sense she should have contacted the ADA Lawyer immediately and filed a discrimination lawsuit on the grounds that cop discriminated againt her due to her disability.

In my opinion, Those police you mention could very well turn out to be the finest officers that money can buy. Same as some judges, lawyers, and other legal creeps.

I didn't even connect the dots. This is in Flori-Duh, so it makes perfect sense. After all, we know that Flori-Duh has painfully low (http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/showthread.php?t=35678) standards for "police officers". Some major housecleaning needs to be done in Flori-Duh law enforcement.
Are you listening, Jeb?
