The California Supreme Court on Wednesday reinstated the state's high school exit exam as a graduation requirement for this year's senior class, leaving 47,000 high school students who failed the test in danger of not graduating.
The high court ordered a state appeals court to hold hearings in the case, but with schools ready to hold commencement ceremonies as soon as this weekend, a resolution appeared unlikely before then.
This year's class was the first in which passing the test of 10th-grade English and eighth-grade math and algebra was required for graduation.
A group of students sued the state, claiming the test discriminates against low-income and minority students. On May 12, Alameda Superior Court Judge Robert Freedman invalidated the graduation requirement for 2006 graduates, finding that it discriminates against poor students and those who are learning English.

You "student" dumbasses out there, I can understand how you could fail a high school exit exam. You had only twelve years to learn basic education.
:whine: :baby:
If you have an issue, here's a tissue. You want SYMPATHY? You can find it in the dictionary between SH*T and SYPHILIS.
Oh, I'm sorry. You don't know how to use a dictionary? Go screw yourselves!

Well , lets see now .. Just how does it discriminate against the poor ??
The poor get free breakfast , free education , free lunch all at school ... All they have to do is sit in class , shut up and listen ... just like the evil rich kids in the public schools ...
If you do not have the basic skills to survive in the "outside" world , you need to stay "inside" for a bit longer ... no better place to continue learning English than in school !!

Those dumbasses have the rest of their future leeching off mommy and possibly daddy, as well as the welfare bum system, unless that is eliminated.

:smirky: It would also help to do EVERYTHING your teacher tells you to do, including HOMEWORK, & do your own work, instead of always copying off of other students.
You know what they are actually referring this to?

They are saying this exam is racist against the Illegals.
I've been keepin an eye on this story from a while back and the person who filed the lawsuit is none other than hispanic and they use the poor the race card et all but they REALLY are concerned ILLEGALS who cant or wont learn a lick of English in America will fail and they dont want that.
Guess they want everything from education on up handed to them as well free without having to work or earn it.

Yep. there are only two types of people in America. Those who want to wipe their own asses, and those who want someone else to do it, and do everything else for them, and no exceptions. It is long overdue, the weeding out of the welfare bums from this country, including the do-nothing, rich welfare bums masquerading as public servants!

Shouldnt most people be able to pass this test before they even attend school?
8th grade math is just algebra, and 10th grade reading is what most people are reading at by 6th grade. If you cant pass this you shouldnt have made it to highschool at all.

Students have had several chances to pass the test, beginning in their sophomore year in high school. Further, the fact the requirements would be in place this year has also been known for some time. In fact, they were supposed to go into effect last year, but a loophole was written into the law permitting a one-year delay in its implementation. In short, those who wrote it bent over backwards to make sure no one was cheated out of a fair chance to graduate.
Those who are complaining don't have a leg to stand on.
