A man, desperate for a drink of water, crawls up to a spring with little water left. As he crawls the last few feet, a boot suddenly is slammed in front of his face. A voice speaks, "Don't you see that little salamander? If you drink this water, it may die."
Sound ridiculous? Check with San Antonio, Texas. The city was threatened with loss of its fresh water in the mid-1990s when endangered species whackos filed suit to deny the city water from its primary source, the Edwards Aquifer. Their stated fear was that springs around the aquifer might dry up and little salamanders living in the springs would die if the population of San Antonio used too much water during a severe drought. I kid you not.
