Soldier's dad to sue church

BALTIMORE - The father of a Maryland Marine who died in Iraq plans to sue the Kansas group that picketed his son's funeral, his lawyer said Friday.

Albert Snyder of York, Pa., the father of Lance Cpl. Matthew A. Snyder of Westminster, will sue the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka for unspecified actual and punitive damages, according to attorney Sean Summers of York. The civil suit will claim defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Summers said he would file the suit Monday in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt.

At least 11 states have passed laws shielding families from the protesters. In all, 30 states have or are considering such legislation.

On Memorial Day, President Bush signed a federal law prohibiting such protests at national cemeteries.

Within a week, the church announced its first protest at Arlington National Cemetery.

On Tuesday, members of the church led by Fred Phelps will protest the funeral of Marine Lance Cpl. Kevin A. Lucas of Greensboro, N.C.
Lucas, 20, died May 26 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province in Iraq.

The new federal lawbars protests within 300 feet of the entrance of a national cemetery and within 150 feet of a road into the cemetery. The restriction applies an hour before until an hour after a funeral.

I'm going to go out on a limb here. The ACLU will represent and defend the vile filth, Phelps and his depraved followers, against the slain soldier's father.

Just like the ACLU defended that vile filth NAMBLA.

ACLU: always on the side of vile filth and depravity.

I don't agree with criminalizing all of Phelps' church's actions (though some of them probably could be treated as crimes without infringing upon the First Amendment); however, I have no problem with someone suing them if they can prove that the church's actions caused legitimate emotional distress (and I would cut the plaintiffs a lot of slack here).

To call that ASSHOLE a "preacher" and to call that building he runs a "CHURCH" are an insult to everything that a preacher and a church should be. He is nothing more than another piece of shit waste of sperm that should be shot.

Fuk his first amendment rights. The day he decided to picket Dead Marines for the purpose of turning a quick buck off bogus law suits, he forfeited his right to even be considered a Human.

Not only do I hope this Marine's father wins his lawsuit against that vile piece of shit, but I hope he gets to burn that sorry excuse for a church to the ground and piss on the embers. I hope every one of his "parishioners" who STILL follow his ass are stricken with Plague, Herpes, Aids, and each one gets gang raped by rabid pit bulls in front of their wives, husbands, and children.

I ask that ALL people pray for the sterilization of diseased shits like these.

I defy ANYONE to tell me that this piece of shit "Pastor" or ANY of his followers should be allowed to live. If I EVER see ANYONE protesting a military funeral, I will go to prison. But before they take me, I promise I will end the life of at least 5 protesters. More if I am able. Will be strictly knife work, will be incredibly bloody, and it WILL be painful for them. I will go to prison. But I'll send those fuks to hell first.

Yeah, but some of them are kids, who probably are only doing what their parents tell them to do. What irritates me is how they're all smiling. If they looked sad, like they were really disappointed about doing what they felt they had to do, I'd think that some of their views might be legitimate. But AFAICS, they're in it for a publicity stunt.

They have rights, but others have rights to protest against them and expose their hypocrisy and idiocy.

Well, I've carried my protest to them. A letter I e-mailed to them from their site:

Sent to Phelps and Congregation:

I pray that one day I see you and your group here in Gaffney South Carolina picketing a Military Funeral. I know you're nothing but a scum bag piece of shit PRETENDING to be a man of the cloth. Your church and your congregation is nothing but an affront to God. Your claim of acting in God's name is a direct INSULT to God.

I know your game. Picket the funeral. Piss off the grieving father and mother, upset the grieving brothers, until someone attacks and strikes you. Then you sue the family, you sue the police, you sue the city and county. You're not doing "God's Work". You just like every other crooked fuking piece of shit out there. Making money off the suffering of others.

But please, if you feel your cause is just, PLEASE come do one of your cute little protests in Gaffney South Carolina. I Beg you. Because I will attend. And when you see me, it will be just a 1 second trigger pull until you are face to face with the God you profess to be working for, and his judgment will not be as merciful as mine was.

And Please bring that worthless pack of shit you call a congregation with you. Because I have enough bullets to put one in each of their heads as well. The men, the women, and those cute little kids you got brain washed. Every one of them will stand behind you when you have to face your god and answer for the pain and the heartache you have spread across this country all for a mere buck.

I beg you, one last time. Come put on your dog and pony show here in Gaffney South Carolina. And I'm going to end all your worldly troubles you worthless fuking piece of shit.

Waiting for you...

Blaine Kessler

i think a little vigilante justice would be in order here

I disagree regarding the rights of these people.

First Amendment does not apply here. Beyond shouting fire in a crowded theater, there has to come a time when the First Amendment just simply does not apply. Just like the media exposing troop movement or intelligence gathering tactics on the front page of the Slimes in a time of war, the First Amendment does not apply. There are certain things that go beyond the pale, and this issue is one of them.

Somebody has to draw the line.

Rights come with responsibility (not that you're ever going to get the Criminal Liberal Left to agree with that).

I don't know what the answer is, but backing them off 300 feet (or is it yards) from causing this kind of pain at a military funeral isn't enough.

I don't completely agree with the vigilante aspect of handling Phelps and his vile followers, but I'll say this, if anyone could ever catch the "Good Reverand" out by himself on a dark night, shoot, shovel and shut up.

He's doing it to piss off the family and friends of the Soldier being buried, so someone will hit him. Then he'll sue the family of the dead soldier, the police department for not "protecting" him, the city and County, sue the operators of the Cemetery, etc.

He's doing it because he's the lowest kind of scum on the planet. He deserves to be killed in the street and left to rot. Him and all his followers. Even the so called "kids". You see them all in the pictures, every damn one of them are smiling, ENJOYING what they do.

There are no words fitting enough to show my disgust for these pieces of shit.

Another sign of a society that can no longer police itself concerning civility, thus laws proliferate adding the sin of stupidity to that of willed ignorance. You're right Lubbock, the 1st amendment does not apply here but how many Americans even understand what the amendment means, let alone know it's history. Long gone are the days when the right to free speech was held to the standard of "whatever is not against law", or "morals and good manners". But what did they know in the 18th century? We're more "enlightened" today.

They showed up here in WV at the miners funerals that were killed in the Sago mine too.

The Patriot Riders are starting to get more press than these guys. If any of you have motorcycles and would like to get involved with that I highly reccomend it. Believe me when I tell you the military that has to deal with burying one of their own appreciate them a great deal.

The father of a Marine whose funeral was picketed by anti-gay protesters from a fundamentalist Kansas church filed an invasion-of- privacy suit against the demonstrators Monday. It is believed to be the first lawsuit brought by a soldier's family against Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., whose members routinely demonstrate at military funerals around the country

Why would Phelps and his band of vile followers show up in West Virginia at the miner's funerals?

I don't get that.

What is Phelps agenda?

When I see these weird, beyond bizarre situations that I can't figure out, I fall back on the old standard: follow the money.

Phelps has got to be getting rich off this.

More power to the Patriot Riders.

When I was younger, I was taught that God will not hold guiltless those who take His name in vain. This does not mean saying "Gaddummit!" when you smash your thumb. Taking God's name in vain is to attach His name to the works of evil that you commit. For example, saying "God is great" before crashing a hijacked aircraft into a building would be taking the Lord's name in vain, as would calling yourself a servant of God while committing acts of evil and leading your followers to do the same.

What this "minister" is doing is taking the Lord's name in vain. God does not hate fags, He hates sin. God does not enjoy it when men of valor are killed by evil servants of a false god. Men of God do not go to funerals and say of the dead, "He deserved to die. He was an idiot." Men of God do not condone harassing greiving widows with signs the support the actions of terrorists.

Apart from that, what this man is doing gives aid and comfort to our enemies, and encourages them that America will soon lose its will to fight. This in turn leads the terrorists to step up their attacks on innocents, causing more death and destruction. By showing disunity rather than unity, he is openly supporting terrorism.

Phelps believes the terrorists are doing God's work. He's really not all that different from the radical Muslims. (And they have even been known to execute homosexuals (http://gayorbit.net/?p=2459), something Phelps advocates/demands (http://www.godhatesfags.com/fliers/dec2002/Outlaw_Sodomy_12-3-2002.pdf).)

Because the cameras were there.

They say they try to get people to hit them so they can sue.

Thats the first thing i noticed, about 2/3 of these people are kids, and they all have shit eating grins on their faces like they are normal kids in a memorial day parade, wtf is wrong with this Felps guy. You know i wouldnt be shocked if he has been molesting kids all along, he looks like a spooky mudafuka, actually he reminds me of the old guy from the "Poltregeist", used to give me nightmares as a kid. Anyways his days are numbered either hes going to get sued until his peniless or someone like Gonzo, with slightly less to lose will put a bullet in his head, no one will feel sorry and that should wipe those shit eating smiles off there faces right quick. The other thing which bothered me is the posters go too far, "Thank God for Dead Soldiers", "God Hates America", in my opinion this guy goes into his cellar at night, dungeon if you will, and sacrifices to Lucifer, what a cook, and a disgrace to everything Christian.
