Study: Massive Southern California Earthquake Could Come Any Moment

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

LOS ANGELES — New earthquake research confirms the southern end of the San Andreas fault near Los Angeles is overdue for a Big One.

The lower section of the fault has not produced a major earthquake in more than three centuries. The new study, which analyzed 20 years of data and is considered one of the most detailed analyses yet, found that stress has been building up since then, and that the fault could rupture at any moment.

"The southern section of the fault is fully loaded for the next big event," said geophysicist Yuri Fialko of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla.

Predicting exactly when that might happen, however, is beyond scientists' ability.

The analysis was published in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature.

Experts have estimated that a quake on the southern San Andreas of magnitude-7.6 or greater could kill thousands of people in the densely populated greater Los Angeles area and cause tens of billions of dollars in damage.......http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,200453,00.html

Yeah, well, I'm "a few hundred miles north." So long as the "Big One" takes a few Hollyweirdos with it, I won't object.

Well . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I'm waiting. Let's get on with it.

We've been waiting for the big one for years. For as long as I can remember. Actually, it's been on my mind lately. Especially when I got to bed. I look up at the bank of cages along the wall and wonde how much damage they would do if they fell on me.

It's not like it's unexpected.

Earthquakes have been hitting above and below my area, from alaska to california, but not much in lieu of the Pacific NW, if anything I fear the Pacific NW is in for somethin large with an eartquake with the activity hitting north and south of where I live at more so than I would think the southern Portion of California.

But if in case anything DOES hit Southern California I'm wonderin if it would affect my region as well?

We do after all live on the 'Ring of Fire' and the volcanoes around here have become more active NTM those in Indonesia and the pacific Rim, with activity in one place there's bound to be stress building up in other 'quiet' places that have not had activity such as that.

Yea I fuss, so what, not much I can do cept do my best to prepare for it like anyone else that lives in Earthquake prone areas.

Make note, some places in the Midwest can be severe earthquake regions like Tennessee to Missourri...

If an Earthquake hit L.A. well......Maybe it wont be that bad as there would be a few million less democrat voters in CA and maybe Arte Morino will change the Angels back to Anaheim Angels like they once were.
John Kerry did only win by 54% here while he won 60% in NY. A few million less democrat votes would make California a swing state like Ohio.

Do we have to wave?

Yes. But you do have the right to choose how many fingers you'll show!
