Black Leaders Resolve to Combat Christian Conservatives

DALLAS — Prominent black leaders said they will work to combat Christian conservatives they say have used gay marriage and abortion to distract from larger moral issues such as the war, voting rights, affirmative action and poverty.

The Revs. Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Joseph Lowery and hundreds of black leaders from around the country are focusing on mobilizing black voters for the fall elections. They kicked off a three-day black clergy conference Monday in Dallas.

Honestly, if anyone is derailing the issues of this country, it is certainly not those of us Christian Conservatives who want to get back to family values (which would PREVENT son's from going to jail) and integrity & honesty (which would PREVENT voter fraud). it irritates me like a splinter under a finergnail when people use anecdotal evidence to point to some issues as being irrelevant as opposed to others. It's not an either/or situation, every issue built upon the backs of others effect this country. The moral degredation of this country is WHY these OTHER issues are such problem areas. They are all spokes in the wheel of a larger vehicle -- the liberalization of the nation.

Bill Cosby is a black man who has earned my respect:

Cosby is telling young blacks that if they don’t get an education and speak proper English their opportunities will be limited. He is warning black youths that the hip hop, ghetto culture is destroying their future. The anti-intellectual and anti-education fad, he reminds them, has made too many African-American men unemployable. He talks about children having children. About how one-parent households are depriving children of fathers, so that two out of three black babies are born into fatherless households, and how the illegitimacy rate that was less than 20 percent in 1940 is now nearly 70 percent.
