I was recently shown a videotape of people reacting to radio talk shows. Organized by a firm that specializes in analyzing radio talk shows, the members of the listening panel were carefully chosen to represent all major listening groups within American society.

But I quickly noticed something odd -- I saw no blacks among the selected listeners. I asked why. And the response was stunning.

Blacks had always been included, I was told, but no more. Not because the firm was not interested in black listeners -- on the contrary, blacks are an important part of the radio audience. They were not invited to give their opinion about various radio shows because in its previous experience, the company had discovered that almost no whites would publicly differ with the opinions of the blacks on the panel. Therefore, once a black listener spoke, whites stopped saying what they really thought, if what they thought differed from what a black had said.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this. In my experience, serious white liberals patronize black people all the time without even being aware of it, and while most are hostile toward black conservatives, many are not. As for the ones who are, their hostility is quit and simmering. The hostility of black ideologues on the left toward black conservatives is pretty much universal and can be quite volatile, while your average black Democrat is rarely hostile toward either black or white conservatives. Sadly, however, he might secretly believe the black conservative to be a fool and the white conservative to be a racist until he gets to really know them. Obviously, this sort of growing familiarity over time rarely occurs outside the workplace between these groups of people. Your average white Democrat, especially the blue-collar Democrat, freely speaks his mind around black people pretty much all the time -- whether he knows them to be conservatives or not. Ditto non-ideological Republicans. Finally, serious white conservatives tend to speak their minds around black people as well -- though perhaps a bit cautiously at first.

From the article cited:
"Therefore, in a mind-numbing non sequitur, blacks are not be judged, talked to, talked about or hired as other human beings are. I write "non sequitur" because even if one were to agree that blacks are an, or even the, oppressed minority, why would that obviate the need to judge, talk to, talk about or hire black human beings differently than anyone else? It would seem that anyone with equal respect for blacks would judge and talk to them just as they would all other people. But high schools and universities, newspapers and television, the Democratic Party and other liberal institutions have made it very difficult to do so."

This is so VERY, VERY true! As a white person, my opinion is immediately invalidated if it differs in any way with one expressed by a person of color -- simply because I am white. By the very nature of my race, I am pronounced unable to "understand" black issues, the black perspective, the black condition, etc.

If I point out a lazy person on welfare, and they just happen to be black, I am racist, even if I've not mentioned race! If I comment on the absurdity and the discriminatory nature of affirmative action, well how dare I, because I've had it easy as a white person in society! (Really? Is that why I lost out on a job opportunity because a black person with lesser qualifications and experience was hired, simply because of their race?)

It's okay for me to talk about the white-trash in my city, and to object to my tax dollars providing their steaks, smokes, and beer, but let me say one word about a kook like Ward Churchill, Louis Farrakan, etc., and I'm just showing my "true colors" as a racist. But forgive me if I even MENTION the accomplishments of Condoleeza Rice, Thomas Sowell, Clarence Thomas, J.C.Watts, etc. They aren't "really" black, they're simply "Uncle Tom's" willing to compromise themselves to succeed in a white world.

This nation has not achieved Dr. King's Dream, NOT because of white America, but because of white AND black liberals, which is best summed up by another quote from the article:

From the article cited:
"And that is why liberals and Democrats will have to answer to history for the harm they have done to at least two generations of black Americans."

Democrats were the ones that owned slaves and Republicans were the ones that set them free.

Democrats were the ones that changed the black culture of the 50s-60s into the ghetto rap gangsta culture they have today. Republicans are the ones trying help them change that.

Whether its in the south or in the north the democrats have made life for most blacks worse.
