Indiana Inmates Sue Over Adult Magazines Ban

Wednesday, July 12, 2006

INDIANAPOLIS — Two inmates have filed a lawsuit against the Indiana Department of Correction to overturn a policy that bars magazines such as Playboy and Hustler.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis seeks class-action status on behalf of more than 20,000 state prisoners and challenges a policy that went into effect July 1 barring adult magazines and other printed material that depict nudity or sexual content.

The policy could prohibit sexually explicit letters and publications such as National Geographic magazine and daily newspapers, according to the complaint, which said the new rule violates the plaintiffs' civil rights.........http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,203110,00.html

I know this will come as a shock, but the ACLU is involved.

When and why did prison stop being a PUNISHMENT for crime?

... the new rule violates the plaintiffs' civil rights.........WHAT civil rights? The assholes are in prison for committing crimes. Their "civil rights" no longer exist. They forfeited them when they freely chose to commit their felonious deeds.

The US prison system is sorely in need of a revamping when incarcerated criminals are wailing about their "civil rights" because they can't have jerk-off magazines.

It's time to resurrect the Devil's Island methodology.

I'm in TOTAL agreement Doc!

I listen to the bleeding-hearts drone on and on about how incarceration is SO much better than the death penalty, yet HOW can that be so when we don't even actually PUNISH them with the incarceration? How is it that a criminal, who has usurped, ignored or eliminated (by virtue of murder) ANOTHER person's civil rghts, deserves civil rights? If we cannot at LEAST exact a life for a life, can we not expect a denial of civil rights as they denied another's?

Prison/jail SHOULD be a place of punishment, not a holding pen with all the luxuries of a hotel and fringe benefits. They should also be required to DO something to reimburse society for the necessity of locking them up . . . grow the food that feeds them, build/maintain the buildings that house them, sew the clothing they wear, etc.

Reason #123,239,911,932 why I hate the ACLU (and liberals).

If I had MY druthers those inmates wouldnt get jack-chit behind bars except miserable 12 day work breakin rocks.

No magazines, no tv, no music no nothing, just proper Punishment.

Civil rights? I'm in agreement with Doc, they dont HAVE any, but dont tell that to the ACLU and the panty-waiste panderers who acribe MORE rights to criminal thugs than they ever would a Law-abiding American Citizen.

Piss on em.

These thugs shouldnt get anything cept slop, tents and hard work in their time in there.

no 'recreation'

Prisons anymore have become upscale resorts, free healthcare, tv, pool halls, outdoor gyms and all sorts of other 'fun' recreational stuff that TAXPAYERS pay for.

I guess it depends on what they're in for. Child molestors, rapists, etc., should not be allowed to get their jollies while in the hoosegow. Others maybe should be allowed to read the more worthwhile articles that occasionally appear in those rags.

If I had MY way I wouldnt suffer a child molestor or rapist to live let alone put them in a prison...

The only thing these "animals" should be reading are books on how to behave themselves.

Hey, Prisoners, you screwed up, you went to jail and gave up your rights.
:stfu:, quitcherbitchin' and deal with it!

"Psss....hey prisoners, reality time, if you wanna jack off your gunna have to do it without visuals, you'll have to use your minute imaginations- your in jail not your own bedroom."

If I was in jail for a serious felony (rape, murder, etc) the last thing I would be thinking about is how to get my jollies in jail. I would be trying to make my peace with God every single day. Then again, I would not be the type to commit heinous crimes so I can't speak from a felonious mind frame.

I totally agree with the lawsuit. Prisoners should have their full First Amendment rights. I just don't see why we should stop there, though. After all, what about the other nine amendments? I think it is terrible that prisoners are denied their Second Amendment rights!
