Well now appearently the nutty owners of Ben and Jerry's ice cream are it "again". According to the Oregonian, they're campeinging to turn over nuclear weapons funding to socialist children's programs.
I know these guys are loons, but something did hit me when reading the article. The cold war ended a long time ago, do we actually need thousands and thousands of nukes? It really is a lagitamite question when over 13 billion dollars is at stake I think. Only a thousand and I think we'd still have more than Great Britain, and more than we'll ever use.
We could then turn the money towards a tax refund (if they'll ever do that) or paying down the national debt.
I'm against any kind of total nuclear disarment, that'd open us right up to attacks. However, I am for dismantaling unecessary weapons (old ones, ones we'll never use, "it seemed like a good idea at the time" weapons etc) to save taxpayer money... I don't know. Truth is, to save real money, we need to look at our social programs, but could this be a step in the right diretion?
