Previously, after I read all of the posts in a particular thread and I went back out to the thread summary page, the column for the number of posts would update automatically so that the number in red (which reflects the number of new posts for that thread) in the column disappears. Now, the number no longer resets. It stays the same as it was before I look at the new posts in the thread--even if I repeatedly refresh the page. It doesn't matter if I read only some of the new posts or all of them (on multiple pages). The number remains the same on the Forum page.

I also clicked on the "Mark All Read" selection at the top menu. It also fails to update the numbers on the threads.

Any ideas?

I have noticed the same thing over the last few days. I think that the server's cache needs a major cleanup and refresh.

It's very frustrating because now all of the thread indicate they have new posts because the number don't update. It's nearly impossible to see which thread have actually been updated--particularly if you are away from awhile.

Do you clean your cache on a regular basis?

I use HistoryKill, and everything is cleaned after each IE session is closed.

Well, I deleted temporary pages and files using the Tools menu for my browswer (IE6).

Other than that, I wouldn't know what to do.

Via Tools/Internet Options/Delete files button?

The problem seems to be fixed now.

Yeah, this is tracked inside your browser. If it pulls the page from your hard drive, then it won't be updated. You can either hit "refresh" to load the page fresh.

Or Under Internet Options -> General tab -> Click "settings" next to "temporary internet files"

Where it says "check for newer version of stored pages:"
put it on "every visit to the page".

Also, for best results, don't use the browsers "back" button, use the navigation within the site. ;)

It has done that to me even with refresh, and even with all files deleted and cookies reset. It's rare though, the only saving grace.

It is possible that either the server's swap file was being choked at times, or the drive's buffer was being overloaded. With how busy the board has been lately, it would not be a surprise.

Did this start up about the time we started using "Retro Stats"??

Just a thought....

No the inital post was the 6th. It's a common problem if people don't have their browser set to update the page on every visit. The browser will try to load the page from the fastest source... which usually is the cache on your hard drive.

Most people keep their cache set too high away. If you set it low, then it forces the browser to update the page too. I set mine at 4 MB.
