As they left the restaurant, five men approached them and asked for a cigarette. --from Patriot Heart's link
Just once, I wish the media would have the balls to print something like, "five cowardly assholes approached them".

I saw something like that happen in Atlanta when I was taking a walk. But the difference is, fellow witnesses took care of the thugs right away. Beat 'em to a pulp. Bet they never touched a serviceman again...

I love the VFW and the Legion. My grandfather was in both and they have always helped Vets who needed it. :claps:

Asking for a cigarette almost always translates into a mugging. It should be actionable all by itself. When some guy tried to break into my house at 4:30 in the morning, when the police arrived he said he was just asking me for a cigarette and I refused to open the door.
The police reaction: I was refusing to be neighborly in refusing to open the door. At 4:30 in the morning.

Kathy29 I'll say it again, you gotta get out of there woman.
Thank God the VFW did something for this guy. I would have sent money if I'd known where to.

Well maybe you can use Kaleefornias anti-smoking laws to your favor, and place a no-smoking and no cigarrette mooching sign on your premises that way even the most idiotic with only two neurons will understand you do not loan cigs, you do not want cigarrette moochers near you or asking for cigs at ANY hour of the day on your property and make certain cigarrette smoking will be prohibited on your premises (with the exception being you) only.
(or you can toss the no smoking sign and just say no soliciting, no ciggarrette bumming, no loitering, no tresspassing after 'thus-and-such hours' no banging on doors at any hour of the day)
That way you get all your bases covered and there will be no excuse - also make sure the stupid sign is in spanish as well as English so nobody can say 'no hablas englais' on you when trying to breeak into your home.

Kathy...anyone wakes me up and asks me for a cigarette at 4:30 in the morning will get this response, "If you're still here when I get back, you're dead cuz I'm going to get my gun."
The police can kiss my sweet, little, hairy, white Irish butt if they take offense.

Maybe the clown, the one with the badge, wanted you to offer him some Krispy Kremes for his trouble.

There was a guy who lived in Phoenix. An eccentric shadow of a man, if you will. Oddly enough he never begged for alcohol or small amounts of money. It was always cigarettes. If you passed him on the street, he would inevitably stretch out his hand and humbly request, "Please, may I have a cigarette?" He must have begged a hundred cigarettes each day and I never once saw him smoke them.
