Floyd Landis is set to lose his Tour de France title and faces a two-year ban after returning a positive B sample for excessive levels of testosterone.
The American, who could also lose his contract with the Phonak team, produced levels more than twice the legal limit after his solo victory on Stage 17.
Landis, 30, has said the high levels detected were a "natural occurence".
He would be the first Tour winner to lose his title, with Spaniard Oscar Pereiro set to be declared the winner.
Pereiro, who would become the first Spaniard to win the Tour since Miguel Indurain's last victory in 1995, finished second overall behind Landis in the race which finished in Paris on 23 July.BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/other_sports/cycling/5233476.stm)
He seems to come up with a different story every day to explain the positive test result. I don't think there can be much doubt now as to what the truth is.

I wonder, if it was a French rider under scrutiny, would he be treated the same as Landis? After all, it's only testosterone.

Landis would be a bit more believeable if he would stop making excuses and just flat out deny everything.

I'm with DTS on this, Landis is making himself out to be an idiot and his stupidity might have something to do with why he would dope up for the race if he did dope up. Its happens all the time in the olympics, people are caught for doping up.
A motive for Landis may have been that he wanted to dope up because he wanted to have the piece of 'fame' 'armstrong' had.

The dude's a doper, end of story. There was a leaked report that the carbon isotope test (which hasn't been made public) came back positive, this is a full proof synthetic test. Exogenious testosterone entered his body, his excuses such as, it's the cortisone shot, it's his natural metabolism, it's the stress he was under and it's the fatigue would all be the first time in the history of the testing that these 'excuses' had actually caused a ratio as high as his 11:1 ratio (4:1 is the max) even giving the benifit of the doubt, 6:1 used to be the max, still he far exceeds the natural limit.

Good post and some good points on the exogenious, its the kiss of death in a roid test. One thing I might call into question is the ratio factor. While your numbers are right, there still is not a universally accepted ratio. Still, to do a cycle inside of three months prior to a test is just plain stupid. When they break down your sample they're gonna get you every time. Even small local powerlifting contests that I go to busts people on a regular basis.

If for perjury no doubt, if for roids then they should also get most of the NFL linemen from the 80's and 90's

Brain cancer got him. Or if we want to stay on urban legends, he died of aids. The man was bi-sexual.
Anyway, While I'm sure in time his heart would have suffered or his liver would have failed in time given the amount he was taking, there is no medical evidence linking his form of brain cancer and steroids.

That tends to be my take on it as well. I'm not a huge Barry fan but I don't hate the guy either, he did what he did and he wasn't the first, not in his sport and not in any sport.

Report: Lab in Landis case made 'administrative error' on 'B' sample
Nov 15 10:49 AM US/Eastern
Report: Lab (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=lab&sid=breitbart.com) in Landis case made 'administrative error (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=%22administrative+error%22&sid=breitbart.com)' on 'B' sample
PARIS (AP) - The French anti-doping lab that tested American cyclist Floyd Landis' urine samples made an "administrative error" when reporting its findings on his backup "B" sample, the French newspaper Le Monde (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=%22Le+Monde%22&sid=breitbart.com) reported Wednesday.
The newspaper cited unnamed sources as saying the Chatenay-Malabry laboratory gave the wrong number in its report about Landis' second sample. Tests on the rider's two samples indicated that Landis had elevated levels of testosterone (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=%22levels+of+testosterone%22&sid=breitbart.com) in his system when he won the Tour de France in July.
