New Jersey Teen Accidentally Kills Mother During Driving Lesson

Monday, August 07, 2006

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Police in Gloucester County's Franklin Township said Monday there will be no underage-driving charges for a 15-year-old girl who accidentally ran over her mother during a driving lesson, killing her.

Because the accident took place on private property, police said there will be no prosecution.........http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,207254,00.html

As there shouldn't be (prosecuted). That is terrible, I always wondered about the driving lesson instructors and how their life is at risk every time they get into the car with one of these drivers (I know they have a brake, but still).

EDIT: Sloppy spelling.

I don't think the girl should be prosecuted, but I find it odd that the only reason she's not is because it is on private property. So, if you run over someone on private property you won't be prosecuted, but had she ran over her mother on a public street on accident she would?

That's what the prosecution reference was. She could still theoretically be charged with her mother's death, had it not been an accident. But it was an accident, hence no charges there either.

Ahhh...didn't catch that when I read it.

Hopefully they will not charge her. I don't know about the laws of her state, but there have been people charged with accidently killing people here in Illinois. One was an lady who put her car in reverse instead of drive and pinned a man between her SUV and the truck behind her. I believe the charge was Involuntary Manslaughter.

One time a Greyhound bus driver who was on strike during the early 1980s got pinned between a bus and a wall in Redding, CA. His wife believed he was murdered (i.e., that the "accident" was deliberate), but I think he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time as the bus was passing through an area with tight clearances. I don't believe any charges were filed. He might have been part of a picket line; I'm not sure.

If this girl had been driving an SUV, she would have been charged. After all, we all know how dangerous those things are.

The manufacturer of the SUV would have been charged (or at least sued).

Hey Buff ya ever wonder bout the stress factor in Truck Driving Instructors? You think a regular CAR is bad, try getting into a Semi-truck with a Student learning for the first time LMAO

I was continuously amazed at how cool and relaxed the Truck Driving Instructors were when I went to Truck driving school.

If an SUV had been involved, Bush would have been blamed.
