Lieberman Loss Energizes The Loony Left
By <BYLINE>JOHN REINIERS
The New York Times, the unofficial organ of the liberal left, endorsed wealthy businessman Ned Lamont - a political unknown - for senator in Connecticut, abandoning the Democrat's vice presidential candidate in the 2000 election, Joseph Lieberman.
Lieberman has been, and still is a stalwart liberal with 18 years of Senate seniority. This man is known for his personal integrity, which is precisely why he was on Al Gore's ticket. Al was associated with the sleaze of Bill Clinton. Lieberman was not. Moreover, he criticized Clinton publicly for his moral and ethical lapses. The Times said fittingly that Lieberman has a "warped version of bipartisanship," and that he "has forfeited his role as a conscience of his party..."
Lieberman's mistake was that he supports the war in Iraq, and sees it as part of the global was against terrorism. Thus he is associated with George Bush - a no-no for any serious Democrat. So much for bipartisanship in Washington.
