None of the BIG teams are showing any power this year.
Lets start with the current failure of these great teams:
Yankees - Randy Johnson is pitching terrible this year compared to his other years(4.96 ERA). Matsui is still injured, A-Rod cant see to stop getting striked out game after game.
Angels - Bortolo Colon cant seem to leave the Disabled list and when he does pitch he ends up on the Disabled list again. Bengie Molina(2 time golden glove catcher) is not there to help give the angels the offense and defense they need. They lead the MLB in number of Errors.
RedSox - Until recently they have fallen down big time.
Whitesox - None of their pitchers except Conteras have maintained good stats.
Astros - Clemen sucks this year.
Cardinals - They picked up the shitty pitcher named 'Jeff Weaver' who is actually brother to the current Rookie star 'Jered Weaver'.
Its much more likely that Tigers,Twins,Mets,As, will be the some of the big teams to go far this year.
Tigers - Their just kicking ass left and right. Remember if they go to the series and lose, Detroit will be on fire.
Twins - Best pitchers in MLB currently, Both Johan Santana and Liriano give the twins the best pitching atm. Santana ranks highest on strikeouts and best on AL ERA.
Oakland - Zito.

Red Sox fans will be sorely disappointed next year. The team has been sold and will be moving to the Philippines, where they will be renamed the Manila Folders.

I give the AL to the Tigers. Leyland is manager of the year, without a doubt. NL is a little tricky, the Cardinals are nice, but the Dodgers have been hot lately. I don't think it's going out on a limb to pick the Mets to win the east, we'll see if they have what it takes to get to the big show.
I still pick Tigers/Mets series with the Tigers in 6. We won't talk about the Red Sox.

Tigers-n-Reds! Yeah?
I'm hoping. Reds are my team since the 1970s.
The parents of a pitcher who played for Detroit a few years back used to live next door to us. So now we keep an eye on the Tigers.

Tigers definately will make it. Mets have it secured unless the Draft Dodgers knock them out. Oakland always plays nice during the season but year after year the Oakland Riots get punched out of the playoffs.

At this point it is more than safe to say the Yankees are in and the Red Sox are out. The Red Sox have lost six in a row, weren't able to handle the injury of even one guy-Varitek- in the same way the Yankees dealt with injuries all year. Anyways they are 8.5 games back and 4.5 out of the Wild Card.
The Yankees have handled Detroit in this series, splitting the doubleheader-losing an experiment with Proctor closing (Mo saved the first game). Then beat them today.
Who said the Yankees were bad this year? They are 26 games over 500(79-53) second only to the Mets and Detroit with 82W and 83 respectively. Anyone who knows about Detroit knows it's their pitching that made them good all year, especially the bullpen-not the hitting. The Yankees can and will out-hit and out-play the Tigers. The Mets will pull it out in the National League and we will have ourselves a Mets vs Yankees World Series. For the 6th Year Anniversary of the 2000 WS.
Note: The Dodgers are the one other possibility for a formidable NLSC winner.
The White Sox are the equivelant in the AL.

The number of wins can mean nothing when it comes to winning AL west or East. Oakland can be on its winning streak then all the sudden get swept by Anaheim like it did years past. It is possible whitesox could do it but their pitchers are not strong enough to hold off jeter/damon/bernie.
NY could easliy sweep Detroit but so could detroit. Its more of how the teams players have been performing. Look at seatle they have second best defense and they can end up knocking anaheim and oakland out if they pull it together.
Its been said on FoxSports: Fan Favorite teams are likely to not go to the series. Yanks/Redsox/Cards/Angels/whitesox. All 5 of them are sloppy in comparison to Detroit and Mets.

2 shutouts from the Angels.
If they manage to do this again it will give other teams in the AL time to catch up. Also they got their butts handed to them by the yankees last game.

L.A. beat Detroit tonight, Yanks 10-1 on Twins to take 2/3 games. The Yankees have beaten Detroit 5/7 this year including two Randy Johnson W's, 1 Mussina, 1 Wang, and 1 Mo. The 2 losses, Kyle Farnsworth-an experiment, and the other Scott Proctor, who had a 3-run lead called on for a save because Mo pitched the first game of a day/night doubleheader. We outplayed, oupitched and outscored them. I know teams can prepare and make changes but Yankees is my prediction coming out of the AL.

I predicted White Sox. The way it is this year it would be Detroit playing the Wild Card team because they have the best record. Therfore these teams eliminate one or the other and the Yanks take Oakland.
In the NL it's either Mets or Dodgers.

Detroits chances seem to be going down the drain a little. After losing 2 out of 3 games to the Anaheim(its in anaheim, not LA) and losing to the yankees, I dont think detroit can win the AL finals.
Anaheim just picked up a 1-0 shutout against Orioles and now only 6 games behind Oakland. Angels will face oakland like 7 or so times before the end of the season, plenty of time to take the AL west title. Oakland lost 8-1 to Rangers tonight.:thumb: And Darin Erstad(3 time Golden glove winner) just returned this night to help smite Orioles.
Yankees will not make it if the angels beat out oakland in the AL west.
We have seen what happend in 02 and 05. 2 outfielders smashing into each other in 05 is enough words.
Yankees have to pray that Oakland keeps its lead over the angels for the rest of the season. Angels dont have to worry about the Boston this year so they will wanna play tough ball on oakland when they face them later this month.
Whitesox seem to be doing the same thing the angels did in 03, slack behind on pitching after winning the series.

I change my Prediction to Angels/Yankees vs Mets/Dodgers.
Yankees will face either mets or dodgers if the Oakland keeps it lead in the west. If oakland falls, then its all over for the yankees. Keep in mind the angels are the masters of 'comebacks' and can repeat history of 02 and 05 and slam the oakland hippies. Boston is no longer the NYY main rival, the Angels are simply the team the Yanks have to cross their fingers they dont face in the AL finals.

Dude, the Yankees could care less about wether it's LA or Oakland. I watched the particular World Series you are talking about. It doesn't have anything to do with the tea in China. The Yankees are far superior to LA. LA is 7GB of the Wild Card- 6.5GB of Oakland. The Yanks are crusin as of now, it's just cruise control, scoring runs all over, Abreu has been the man-a .370 BA with 13 2B a .465% OBS-nuts; Jeter is having one of the best seasons(if not the best) of his career, second in B.A. in the AL(.342)
Arod was struggling- he has certainly broke out. 5 HR in 6 games(31 total). Bernie- a veteran of the game, told he was too old and should retire-ends up playing quite often and quite well (.283BA in his last season, a 1 yr 1M deal, this is his year to go out strong as a Yankee where he had a hell of a ride).
Canu is hitting .332 steal bases with Jeter and Damon and Melky oh and Arod when he wants and Posada has been known to run every once in a while lol.
The Lineup's stats speak for themselves. The Yankees don't sweat any of the AL teams, not Minnesota or The Chicago White Sox or Oakland.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/Statistics/Team/playerstats?team=nyy
The Dodgers will not beat the Yankees, not even close. I would put alot of money on it. I'm not a gambling man though. They would first have to beat the Mets to face us and they won't (as long as Pedro is healthy) they lost season series 1-2. They are streaky, and inexperienced. The Angels are obviously way out of the running. St. Louis isn't very good. San Diego is a team that is interesting.
Still: Yankees vs Mets. Theee Yankees Win!
Republican_Legion

I would bet money on the Angels pounding the yankees if they can catch up ahead of Oakland. And the number of wins a team has doesnt mean anything as long as they are at the top in their division which all the Angels have to do is gain more ground over Oakland by beating Oakland or if oakland loses and then they have to chance to do a repeat of 02 and 05.
Truth is the American League west is a heck of alot different then the central and east. In the AL west this year things have been very close and Angels have shown critics that they can pull it together towards the very end of the season like they did years before.
Even if Anaheim wins the AL West by just 1 game and faces the tigers or yankees who have alot more wins in their stats doesnt mean anything. It depends on the teams previous ability against that team in which case the yankees are likely to lose if the Angels speed past oakland.
For example its known that the redsox would sweep the angels easily and they do most of the time. Its known that the Yanks and the Angels can sweep Detroit and they do. 200 Million dollars doesnt buy championships btw. In 2003 the most poorest team in MLB the Florida Marlins beat the yankees in the world series. Barry bonds was on fire in 2002, did he make his team win the series ? Nope. Same can be said for any star player.
Stats dont indicate a win but they do indicate a players ability and a teams weakness and strengths.

The Rangers will not even be able to find the World Series on TV
No but you can help out by beating Oakland so they Anaheim can beat the yankees :thumb: in the AL championship.
I'm glad the Rangers beat the Oakland Riots tonight 8-1 :thumb:
Seriously if the Rangers pull back the Oakland Riots a bit the Angels would have to send credits and thanx to the Rangers for helping them win the AL West by beating out the liberal folk in Oakland.
Rangers just need to find the right players and coaches thats all.
John Lackey is only with the Angels for another 2 years it seems, after that he might want to go back to his home 'Texas' and play there.
Next season the Angels wont have 'Adam Kennedy' or 3 time golden glove winner 'darrin erstad' since they never renew free agent players so it is likely Rangers have a chance next season to run us over and I hear rumors of Barry Zito(Oakland Riots) might be traded.
Knowing me, I like any underdog team in the World Series whether its the Rangers or the Astros(like last year).

Barry Zito is a free agent at the end of this season and he has hired Scott Boros as his agent. What does that mean? I'm predicting Zito will be a Yankee:
-Boros gets the big contracts for his clients.
-Zito is durable as he has never been disabled or missed a start.
-The Yankees have the money to spend.
-George Steinbrenner gets what he wants and will sign him if for no other reason to keep Zito out of Boston.

Legion, the Angels making it to the playoffs, nevermind going anywhere in them, is a pipe dream at this point. They dont even compare to the Yankees this year. The Yankees beat them quite handily and I assure you this is the Yankees year. Think about it, they are stacked. This is without Sheff, and Matsui and Pavano, yet, they are cruising...Varitek goes down while the Red Sox have a 1 game lead....by the time he comes back they are now 9GB......just to give you an understanding of just how well the Yankees dealt with injuries this year. Like no other, and with good reason, they are stacked.
Here is a good stat: Yankees Runs scored: 776 Team BA: .285
Angles Runs Scored: 661 Team BA: .272
The Yankees don't fear the Angels, not even a little bit. If anything they would probably rather face the Angels than Oakland because the Angels are weaker. The way things are going this talk might all be for naught. The Yankees are three games back of Detroit for the best record in the AL and if they do catch them then they will get the Wild Card team-Minnesota or The White Sox (barring some super turn of events).
We have killed Minnesota all year and have won the series with the White Sox-both are beatable in 5 games. Then again so is Oakland or any other AL team that the Yanks will face.
The only struggle for the Yanks will be either the Dodgers (even thats a stretch) or the Mets.
Yankees vs Mets?

Everyone at ESPN and probably Fox Sports would agree that up and down the Yankees line-up are patient hitters who are hard outs every time. They ware guys down and by the 6-8 inning have a comfortable lead-alot of games were lost by relievers, many of which were pee-on's hindsight being 20/20. I mean- Damon, Jeter(SS), Arod(3B), Sheff (DH/1B/RF), Giambi (DH/1B), Abreu (RF/DH), Matsui (LF), Posada (C), Canu(2B)...that line-up is too much to contend with. Then Bernie(.283BA-55RBI)/Melky Cabrera(.283-42RBI) on the bench- guys who have been starting alot this year.......It's so insane. I mean we even have Miguel Cairo kickin around.
Don't forget guys like Ponson, Wright and Shawn Chacon- guys who lost many of the games and were for alll intents and purposes experiments-won't be starting come playoffs. Of them Wright will probably be the only one to make the post-season roster as a reliever.
Mussina, Johnson, Wang.......Cory Lidle the (L) acquired with Abreu has been doing very nicely, will be a good guy out of the Pen. Then Villone, Proctor, Karstens, and Bruney.....and of course Mo. I have followed the Yanks since '96 when I was 10 years old and have watched them religously since 2000 when I was 14. This is the best team that I have seen assembled so far. I really like our chances.

Not taking anything away from the '98 team though, but I didnt see them play as much as I have watched this Yankee team.

What would be worse is if it were to be Oakland Vs Detroit. 2 Liberal Infested citys with reputations of Riots over sports games.
Detroit hasn't rioted after the last two Piston NBA championships, nor the 3 Stanley Cups the Red Wings won a couple of years ago. I don't argue that it could not happen again; those who do such things are punks looking to stir up trouble. However, the city has done a commendable job the last several years using neighborhood patrols to cleanup the Devil's night fires, and also to watch for same during team victory celebrations.
I agree with your assessment of the Tigers. I think the only way they'll win the division and advance to the playoffs is if Chicago and Minnesota also decide they don't want to play in the post-season. Detroit's offense has not been there and consequently they've wasted some fine pitching performances by the starters. If the bats don't come alive at important points in the games left, they'll be stunned to find themselves watching the post-season, rather than playing in it.

Thats what they said about Arizona in 2001 and Angels in 2002 and Boston in 2004.
Minnesota has the best pitching this year (Johan Santana) and good enough offense with Mauer. Yankees and Mets have the most games won this year but thats not gonna win a world series for them. Oakland and Detroit are gonners, it will come down to Twins vs NYY in the ALCS.
Mets are going to the postseason but that doesnt mean they will win the NLCS just cause they have the most wins. In the last 5 years the wild card teams have won the most world series.
If it ends up NYY vs NYM its gonna be very boring. NYY will beat them handsdown like 2000, not even a chance.
If its a NYY vs NYM series it will probally signal a Democrat takeover in the senate and house.

The Mets and Yankees stack up pretty evenly for the most part. Also, the Mets beat the Yankees 5 out of 6 times this season, and the one win the Yankees managed was entirely due to Billy Wagner having a complete meltdown while trying to save it in the ninth inning.
