:moo: I always hate seeing the end of summer vacation, but the consolation is that it's the beginning of football season. My favorite fall pasttime is enjoying the Friday night lights, but unfortunately, our first game was rained out. Still, there'll be a whole season to enjoy. And have y'all noticed the falling gas prices? It's down to $2.599 here, but I pay the extra 10¢/gallon for the mid-grade. Hopefully, this will help the Republicans at the polls.

 And I've had a snootful of the pundits claiming that the demonicrats are going to sweep to victory. I think their media allies are spreading this on purpose. I wish they'd STFU, & let the voters decide.

:thumb: Song of the week:

Jimmy Buffett - "Come Monday"

Headin' up to San Franciscofor the Labor Day weekend show,I've got my hush-puppies on,I guess I never was meant forglitter rock and roll. And honey I didn't knowthat I'd be missin' you so.
[Chorus:]
Come Monday It'll be all right,Come Monday I'll be holding you tight.I spent four lonely days in a brown L.A. hazeand I just want you back by my side.

Yes it's been quite a summer,rent-a-cars and west bound trains. And now you're off on vacation, somethin' you tried to explain. And darlin' I love you so that'sthe reason I just let you go.
[Chorus]
I can't help it honey, you're that much a part of me now.Remember the night in Montana whenwe said there'd be no room for doubt.I hope you're enjoyin' the scenery,I know that it's pretty up there. We can go hikin on Tuesday, with you I'd walk anywhere.California has worn me quite thin,I just can't wait to see you again.
[Chorus]</PRE>

1. Did you go to school in the same district for thirteen years, or did you have to change schools?

I changed once or twice.

2. What Paul Harvey comment do you remember most fondly?

It's been so long since I've listened to Paul Harvey, I don't even know.

3. What user names do you use at other boards?

Variations on my Middle Name (Jon, JonE, JonECat, etc....) and others like Gonzo, HST_Gonzo.

4. Have you ever declined to leave a tip, for poor restaurant service? Describe.

Never really had that experience in a restaurant, declined to tip a delivery guy for taking an hour and a half.

5. How did your high school do in football this week?

I don't really follow my old team, although I know they've sucked for years.

6. Do you have anything hanging from your ceiling?

No.

7. Do you recycle anything?

Jokes. :D

8. What's the most attractive feature of your hometown?

The View of the Mountains.

9. Describe a landmark in your hometown that has been torn down.

Nothing of real note.

10. Name a place that you keep seeing in your dreams.

Well, this is a family board so I'll pass. :D

I just paid $2.529 a gallon at the no-brand gas station that I frequent. He's usually got the lowest prices around, at least for regular.
I don't follow football or any other sports.

 This week's questions:
1. Did you go to school in the same district for thirteen years, or did you have to change schools?
My mom took us out of the public school system after I finished 5th grade. From then on I was in the same school through H.S. graduation. If that hadn't happened, I would have been in the same public school district all along.
2. What Paul Harvey comment do you remember most fondly?
None specifically, except for how he said Good day at the end of his commentary.
3. What user names do you use at other boards?
I usually use Barry C or BarryC. One board requires our real name. I put in Barry Caselli when I registered and the guy got mad at me, saying that was not my real name. But I said it's the name I use when I'm not signing checks or doing other official stuff like that.
4. Have you ever declined to leave a tip, for poor restaurant service? Describe.
At the hotel I work for, I went to Sunday Brunch twice and the service was horrible the first time. The second time we got seated literally a few hours after our reservations. But that day the service was okay. The day the service sucked I was not paying. That was my uncle. I don't know if he left a tip or not.
5. How did your high school do in football this week.
I went to a Christian school. The sports teams at my school were soccer and basketball. No football.
6. Do you have anything hanging from your ceiling?
No, but there's a smoke detector attached to my ceiling.
7. Do you recycle anything?
I recycle all recyclables except when I'm at work. That's because nobody recycles in our department, even though technically it's mandatory. I believe in it, and think it should be done.
8. What's the most attractive feature of your hometown?
Well I lived away from the center of town and the highway. We had deer in the woods behind our house. That would be my answer.
9. Describe a landmark in your hometown that has been torn down.
There was a house known as the Dr. Eyland House. It was an Italianate Villa. An old man lived there throughout my childhood. I'm not sure if he was an Eyland or not. Later when I was a teenager it was vacant, but there was a squatter in there, or so I heard. It caught fire and was later torn down. The entire property was turned into a housing development. I have a 1983 photo of it in one of the Historic Buildings galleries in my Webshots galleries.
It was a landmark to me, although I don't think the average people who drove past it paid any attention to it.
10. Name a place that you keep seeing in your dreams.
None. I rarely remember my dreams, and don't dream very often anyway. I never have any reruns in my dreams either.

1. Did you go to school in the same district for thirteen years, or did you have to change schools?

6 different schools in 2 school districts. First year of school was in Ohio. Then we moved to Michigan, 3 elementary schools in the same district. In that district, grades 7 and 8 were considered "Middle School" and was in a separate building. Grades 9 through 12, high school, was in it's own building.

2. What Paul Harvey comment do you remember most fondly?

Never really cared enough about Paul Harvey to listen to him.

3. What user names do you use at other boards?

Same one I use here.

4. Have you ever declined to leave a tip, for poor restaurant service? Describe.

One or twice.

5. How did your high school do in football this week?

I didn't like the idiots on the football team when I went to school, I see no reason to care enough about the new breed of mental midgets now.

6. Do you have anything hanging from your ceiling?

Does Grandma count?

7. Do you recycle anything?

Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide.

8. What's the most attractive feature of your hometown?

It's over 800 miles away from me.

9. Describe a landmark in your hometown that has been torn down.

Gratiot Drive In.

10. Name a place that you keep seeing in your dreams.

I practice Lucid Dreaming. So I see what ever place I feel like seeing.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

1. Did you go to school in the same district for thirteen years, or did you have to change schools?

:moo: The same district.

2. What Paul Harvey comment do you remember most fondly?

:moo: He told of a little girl saying Grace before a meal, & she paused before saying "Amen." When her mother asked why she paused, she said, "Because Paul Harvey does it that way." (Paul Harvey................. Good day!)

3. What user names do you use at other boards?

:moo: Longhorn_Platinum here, Longhorn Platinum at Amarillo dot com & Hannity, & The Longhorn at Rapture Ready. At www.freecell.com (http://www.freecell.com), I'm LonghornPlatinum, Texas_Longhorns, VanillaCoke, St._Louis_Rams, Jack_of_Clubs, & Luke_Duke. (Multiple names are not discouraged there.)

4. Have you ever declined to leave a tip, for poor restaurant service? Describe.

 Yes. At a truck stop in Fond du Lac, WI, I ordered a bowl of soup. The waitress icily asked, "Are you gonna get a glass of water with that?" I said, "No, I think I can afford a Diet Pepsi®...

:sulk: "...since I won't be leaving you a tip!"

5. How did your high school do in football this week?

 No score, rained out.

6. Do you have anything hanging from your ceiling?

 Just a ceiling fan.

7. Do you recycle anything?

:moo: Yeah, at work, I use paper printed on one side, to run off copies of other things, rather than throw it away.

8. What's the most attractive feature of your hometown?

:moo: Lake Sabine.

9. Describe a landmark in your hometown that has been torn down.

 There used to be a Spanish-style stucco train depot at the head of the main street of the downtown section, but in spite of the protests of the people who wanted to save it, the city had it torn down. And the street where most people would enter from out of town used to be a boulevard with oleänder bushes planted at regular intervals for about four miles. It was a beautiful sight, but the oleänders were removed to make way for a modern "chicken lane".

10. Name a place that you keep seeing in your dreams.

 My old elementary school, & the neighborhood around it.

1. Did you go to school in the same district for thirteen years, or did you have to change schools?

Changed schools. From Sapulpa, Oklahoma to Mangla, Pakistan. Talk about culture shock!

2. What Paul Harvey comment do you remember most fondly?

I haven't heard Paul Harvey in so long, I can't remember one. I do like him.

3. What user names do you use at other boards?

I don't visit other forums. Lucianne to look around, but don't post.

4. Have you ever declined to leave a tip, for poor restaurant service? Describe.

Absolutely, but that's another one of those things that's been so long ago, I've forgotten the details. In the fourteen or so years that I've been in Lubbock, I don't think I've had bad restaurant service. Slow sometimes, but understandable. Sometimes these college kids hover, trying to do a good job when they wait on you, but that doesn't count as poor service.

5. How did your high school do in football this week?

I don't keep up with it. Too many High Schools, and having never attended one of them, and not knowing anyone who did, I just don't keep up. Now. Ask me about the Red Raiders! Love the team. Don't like Mike Leach in the least. Have you ever noticed how close together his eyes are?

6. Do you have anything hanging from your ceiling?

Fan.

7. Do you recycle anything?

Paper.

And here's a tip for you shredders: all that shredded paper is some of the best garden mulch in the world. It holds mositure, smothers weeds, and breaks down. Best feature: it's free!

8. What's the most attractive feature of your hometown?

The campus of Texas Tech University. It's really a pretty campus.

9. Describe a landmark in your hometown that has been torn down.

An old historic windmill that was torn down to make way for either a United or an Albertson's. I can't remember. It might have been a bank. At any rate, the windmill is gone.

10. Name a place that you keep seeing in your dreams.

Cody, Wyoming.

1. Did you go to school in the same district for thirteen years, or did you have to change schools?

Moved around, changed schools, different districts

The stories about stupid criminals . . . of course, his sign off on the personal interest stories has become a household phrase: And that's the rest of the story.

3. What user names do you use at other boards?

Tried to sign up somewhere else under Homeskoolr, but was never accepted, :(

4. Have you ever declined to leave a tip, for poor restaurant service? Describe.

Yes, we were completely forgotten and had to track down the waitress just to get our bill.

5. How did your high school do in football this week?

Don't keep up with high school football anymore, I'm a college football gal, and MY team plays tomorrow night. Hopefully we will take all the air out of the Miami whirlwinds! Go 'Noles!

6. Do you have anything hanging from your ceiling?

ceiling fans, my DSL cord, and a few cobwebs in the corners, :)

7. Do you recycle anything?

ziplock bags, bread ties, paper towl & toilet paper rolls, old paper grocery bags, ... aww too much stuff to mention. I keep all kinds of stuff like that in my craft cabinet in my back room because I re-use them for children's projects (I teach VBS's, children's churches, kids' outreach programs, etc.)

8. What's the most attractive feature of your hometown?

Our City Hall / Municipal Building

9. Describe a landmark in your hometown that has been torn down.

One of the oldest buildings in town had to be torn down because a fire raged through it, making it unsound for use. They cleared the lot completely and made a beautiful little park.

10. Name a place that you keep seeing in your dreams.

My house

I always hate seeing the end of summer vacation, but the consolation is that it's the beginning of football season.

Not only that, but the pennant races are heating up, and the first COLD FRONT is just around the corner.

1. Did you go to school in the same district for thirteen years, or did you have to change schools? From 2nd to HS graduation - Houston I.S.D.
3. What user names do you use at other boards? Insane4Twain
4. Have you ever declined to leave a tip, for poor restaurant service? Describe. Shore did! Went to a Mexican food restaurant and found a roach turd at the bottom of my water glass. I tried to bring it to the attention of the manager. He disappeared for ten minutes, and finally reappeared without saying a word to me. When I asked him myself, he blandly stated it was probably from a potato. Okay, a potato. I went with that. "So, what you're saying is it's okay to serve bits of potato in glasses of water?" He shrugged. I paid the bill, and said, "Take a good look at us, 'cause we're never coming back."
5. How did your high school do in football this week? I don't give a hoot.
6. Do you have anything hanging from your ceiling? A liberal. And a potted plant. Just kidding. We keep all our plants outdoors.
