I am an old time science fiction fan and there are several books I would like to see adapted:
Childhood's End
The Winds of Time
The Synthetic Man (AKA: The Dreaming Jewels)
The Stars, My Destination
City
Way Station
Slan
Ender's Game (not old, but great)

The Teeth of the Tiger
Brave New World - Make it into a good movie, not that crappy Leonard Nimoy TV junk.
Snowcrash - Neal Stephenson
The Diamond Age - Neal Stephenson
The Devil of Nanking - Mo Hayder
The Teeth of the Tiger
I'd rather see Executive Orders. That'd be one hell of a long movie though.

The John Sanford Prey series.
I'm not sure the books could/would make it onto the Big Screen, but they would make a great series of two-hour made for television movies.
A couple of qualifiers: 1.) The screenwriter would have to remain true to the story, not go wandering off in all directions [the plots stand on their own just as Sanford wrote them, and they don't need tinkering with]; and 2.) An actor who could really protray Lucas Davenport. Not some metrosexual, lace-panty-wearing pretty boy, but someone who can bring Davenport's grit and grittiness to the screen.

YES!
Also, I want to see a decent film rendition of 1984 from the conservative's perspective.

Ender's Game (not old, but great)
YES!
The problem with Ender's Game is that, as advanced as film techniques are, in order to really make it work on screen it would require the sort of film-making technology that has only recently become available.
A great book . . . and coming to a screen near you soon.

Atlas Shrugged
Watchers (by Dean Koontz) -- AND STAY TRUE TO THE BOOK!! There have been 2 movies based on that book, and BOTH were stinkers, yet the book remains one of my all time most favorite books. With the technology we have today, that movie could be made well, with good actors.
I second the motion for the "Prey" books . . . with the right character in the lead, it would be an awesome movie series.

An interesting idea--because I loved the book and liked the movie. What do you imagine would be presented differently?

Homey, do also you read Michael Connely (sp?), the Harry Bosch series? Connely also wrote Bloodwork and it went from book to movie [Clint Eastwood]; it was a good enough movie, but not true to the book at all, therefore disappointing.
TheLucas Davenport or Harry Bosh characters either one could become every bit as popular as Parker's Spenser series [Robert Urich]--given the right actor and screenwriter.
My biggest gripe [as is everyone else's gripe] with books to movies is that a dadgummed screenwriter and/or director can't just leave the plot/story line alone.
If a book grabbed the public, and withstood the test of time, then it must have been a pretty good book to start with.
Just make the movie true to the book!

Lucas Davenport
Excellent series. I haven't read the most recent ones.
Mind Prey was done as a TV movie a few years ago. Now you're not going to believe this but they actually cast that black guy from ER as Lucas Davenport! I'm not shitting you.
Of course it would be pretty difficult to find an actor who looks like Davenport but they could at least try. I imagine him looking like Craig T. Nelson (too old) or Steven Seagal (who may or may not have the acting skills).

Very cool.
Peretti also wrote a novella called, "Tilly", that would make a great movie.
Looks like they are doing something here

Steven Seagal: Not.
Although . . . if Segal wasn't known [and type-cast] for all the goofy, trash-movies he's played in, he would make a pretty good Lucas Davenport. He's about the right size.
A black guy? Now that's hard to believe!
See. That's what I mean about these damned Hollywierd-oos messing with a good book.

Joel Rosenberg's Last Jihad
David Brin's The Postman (at least read the book this time before writing the script)
No kidding!!! What a completely screwed up mees that was. The book was great, but the movie stunk. I mean they completely left out the Old Man on the Mountain. He was the 2nd most important character in the book and they completely left him out.
Niven & Pournelle's Lucifer's Hammer Every "impact" movie tries to achieve what Niven Pournelle accomplished, but they all fall short. This was the one and only SF book that my dad ever read and enjoyed. Most every other book he read was either a mystery or western.
Louis Lamour's Sacket SeriesI thought that about half of these had been made into movies???

Lub,
I hadn't heard of the Harry Bosch series!!! Thanks for that tip, I'll be checking up on it with my local library (they know me personally, I have a GREAT relationship with our library branch, LOL).
Yeah, they would need to find just the RIGHT actor to play Lucas Davenport, imho! His casting is KEY and crucial to the story . . . I hadn't given much thought to a current actor, but in my opinion, no WAY could Segal come even close to Davenport! I think of more of a dark and brooding shadow of James Bond . . . would have to give serious thought to see if I could think of a good actor for it, hmmmmm. If he was a few years younger, I think Brian Dennehy - Studio Stills Photo (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0398712/Ss/0398712/3659.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Dennehy,%20Brian) or how about Tom Selleck?? He has aged well (imho), and I bet he would make a great Davenport (although perhaps a bit tall for the part.)

There was a very well done mini-series (movie) with Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot in it about 10 to 15 years ago but it only adapted parts of two books. The Sackett series has at least 15 books in it.
I would also like to see them make a good adaption of 1632 but I fear they would mess it up to badly.

As far as I know, they've only done the first two books into movies. I hope they are planning on doing the rest.
