The horror might have been even worse than decision-making. We'll never know for sure, of course, but consider the following. According to an acquaintance (who sounded like he knew what he was talking about), some of these people probably didn't make a conscious decision to jump. Their bodies, in conjunction with the subconscious mind and reacting to the danger of the heat and flames, may have been simply overidding the conscious mind and forcing the bodies to "safety". (If you've ever been hypnotized you'll have some idea of what this refers-to). If any of you have a background in psychology, maybe you can address this. I don't know if it's poppycock or not. It sounded like something to think about.
But not too much.
