By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News Dallas Cowboys star receiver Terrell Owens swallowed prescription pain medication Tuesday night in an apparent attempt to harm himself, according to a Dallas Police Department report released Wednesday morning.
A source who spoke to WFAA-TV called it a suicide attempt.
<!-- sidebar starts here -->
<!-- sidebar ends here --> The police report says the complainant “stated that he was depressed” and that he had emptied a bottle of pain pills and was trying to harm himself, the report said.
Owens was transported to Baylor University Medical Center.
According to the KTVT-TV, doctors treated him by attempting to induce vomiting. The police report said he was treated for a drug overdose.
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said late Tuesday he was unaware of Owens’ trip to the hospital, and Owens’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and publicist, Kim Etheridge, could not be reached for comment.
Last week, according to Cowboys coach Bill Parcells, Owens had a reaction to the pain medicine he was given following surgery in which a plate was inserted into his right hand to stabilize a fractured fourth metacarpal. Parcells said Owens became ill and could not work out, but he was improved the next day.

That's one way to get the attention he needs so badly.

Sorry, but I have no sympathy for those who try or are successful at killing themselves.

How do they know this?
If I were the cop, nurse, or medic who responded and treated him I sure wouldn't be talking about it. It would without a doubt be a HIPPA violation.

It's very ignorant of the media to report this as an attempted suicide before all information has been given. A police report is not fact, it's assumption, conjection, speculation-insert word here-at best. The report has all kinds of redactions and such, so it's purely speculation at this point. No solid facts to go on.
T.O. has always been a clean player, never failed or violated the NFL's drug policy. He is probably second to none in the league as far as physical physique and with good reason, the man takes alot of supplements. Earlier in the week he had an alergic reaction to the pain medication he was on. I find it very plausible that this is alot of spin. T.O. and his publicist have both denied the report that it was an attempted suicide. T.O. is due to speak at 3:30. My guess is that the pain killer's had an averse reaction with the supplements which he was on. T.O. has not normally taken pain killers throughout his career. Michael Irvin and Neon Deon Sanders (both good friends of T.O.'s) have both spoken with T.O. at his house and have also denied that it was a suicide.
In case you didn't know it the man has had a real tough life. His mom was a 16 yr/old and he was very poor growing up. He actually had only one lamp in his house and his mother was severly strict with him. His dad lived across the street (mom had an affair) but he never knew that it was his father until many years later, actually he had a crush on his half-sister not knowing that it was his sister since the secret was kept from him. The Eagles and Niners both offered him counseling while he was there because they were aware of these issues. No doubt the man has issues, possibly depression, he expects everyone to abandon him because he has had alot of people give up on him. Some of it is his fault and some of it is just his enviroment.
I like the guy, I think he's a great player and has alot to offer my team. I hope this all smooths over and I expect that it will. We'll have to wait and see what he says. Get some actual facts.

CNN and ESPN were angry that T.O. didn't try to kill himself, whining about the fact that there are sworn statements by the Dallas P.D., yet disregarded T.O.'s own words and the words of his publicist which were to the contrary.
ESPN's Bob Ley was apparently trying to make news of the early misinformation instead of reporting what T.O. just said. Ley obviously didn't want to move on, instead, he said, "Let's go back to the beginning of this..." and that's when I changed the channel.
The media got it wrong and they don't want to admit it. CNN regarded the T.O. press conference as a "masterwork of publicity."

If T.O. had had an earlier reaction to the pain pills, why did he take them again?

I didn't know that he'd had a prior reaction to pain killers. I missed that little tidbit of information somehow.
I saw his "press conference" [staement], and I don't believe he tried to commit suicide.
I never heard of TO before today.

Maybe next time he'll succeed. Wouldn't bother me a bit.

I may have misunderstood about a prior reaction. Still, given TO's credibility, I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to have been an unsuccessful felo de se. Most attempts are.

I don't know what felo de se means.
If what I understanad about suicide, most "attempts" -that's the ones that aren't designed to be successful, are a cry for help.
I asked my son --the football fan, about TO and got the lowdown. If what my son says is even half right, this TO is in need of a serious checkup from the neck up.

Straight Dope (http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a1_139.html)
Dear Cecil:
In reading I have come across a reference to "felo-de-se," which seems from the context to mean "suicide"--but I'm not sure. Can you help? --D.C., Los Angeles
Dear D.:
"Felo-de-se" is a Latin phrase meaning "evildoer upon himself," or, simply, a suicide. In England before 1870 a distinction was made between a suicide, which was the name given to an act of self-destruction committed by a person of unsound mind, and a felo-de-se, which was committed somebody who was sane. If a self-destruction was judged a felo-de-se, the deceased's estate was generally forfeited to the crown.
England has had a few interesting suicide laws. Before 1961, persons who survived suicide attempts were subject to criminal prosecution and penalty. (My dip brother used to claim that the penalty was death. He also said the penalty for successful suicide was life imprisonment. My brother is a very funny guy.) Up until 1823 the genteel British would drive a stake through the body of a suicide before burying him at the side of a road.

I dont like TO, I wish he had never signed with the Cowboys (My team) However considering the reputation of the Dallas Police I would not be surprised if it turned out that TO simply Overdosed on the combination of Painkillers and "Supplements" and suicide was never mentioned.
Of Course we will NEVER know for sure, unless he trys again
