View Full Version : Some States Making It Harder to Vote

Some states have enacted laws that make it harder to vote instead of correcting ballot problems that have plagued various parts of the country since the 2000 election, according to a study released Thursday.

Describing their findings as "troubling," voting reform advocates sampled 10 states with past election difficulties. Especially worrisome, the report said, were laws passed by a handful of states, including Arizona and Georgia, that require a government-issued photo identification card and proof of citizenship before being allowed to vote.

Though both state laws were later blocked by judges, "the damage has already been done," confusing would-be voters and severely hampering voter registration drives, said Tova Wang of The Century Foundation think tank, which conducted the survey with Common Cause and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights.

Requiring a government issued photo id should be mandated in all federal elections. This doesn’t make it harder to vote – it just makes it harder to cheat.

That's exactly what they said. You know... what we call "Cheating" and "Voter Fraud"... they call VOTING.

I strongly support tightened restrictions on voting, starting with an IQ test to weed out anyone with a room-temperature IQ (< 80). This will eliminate 99.9999% of liberals.

Not only are these federal IDs FREE of charge, if one cannot go to the local 'office' to get it, they will bring it to your door!!

How in the world can ANYONE be against that? Oh, yeah...forgot...we're talkin' 'bout liberals, ain't we?

Never mind.

Their excuses are so lame, and most of the public (except the very lame) know it and see it for what it is - resistance to having the door slammed on leftist voter fraud.

I also think that they need to address the issue of the voting methods themselves. One form of voting should be used everywhere in every election. Also, if we use voting machines, they should be inspected BEFORE an election by several different people to make sure they aren't rigged. Case and point, does anyone remember the fraud in Philadelphia where a voting machine already had something like 6,000 votes for the Democratic candidate on it before the polls opened?

It's time to support the "Vote in Your Underwear" revolution (aka Vote by Mail). People, this is by far the best thing we could do for our voting process. VBM would eliminate all of the asinine BS assoiciated with voting machines, exit polls and actually ENfranchises MILLIONS of voters. With VBM, all votes would be counted and elections officially certified (meaning no more liberal lawsuits to allow electoral fraud) before the results were released taking the press out of the business of influencing elections. VBM moves the burden of proving that you are who you say you are to the registration process (Motor-Voter is a great supplement to this process if you require proof of citizenship when getting a DL).

A comprehensive bill to eliminate election fraud was presented to the Senate last month. It was defeated 178-50.

Yes.

Would you keep us up to date on AZ prop. 200 that the Ninth just sank? An emergency request for a stay has been filed, which will go to Justice Kennedy - dunno yet if he's gonna handle it in time for the election or not.

Your local papers are probably following it..........

Thanks.

Voting with photo ID:

I walk into a polling place show my ID and vote.

Voting without photo ID.

Juan Martinez walks into a polling place, signs his name next to his printed name on the voter rolls and takes note that the name under his is that of Joe Blow. Juan tells Roberto Martinez to go into the polling place and tell them that his name is Joe Blow. Roberto signs "Joe Blow" next to the printed name and notes the name below Joe's is Mary Jones. Roberto goes home and tells his wife Rosita Magdalena to go to the polling place and tell them her name is Mary Jones.

Meanwhile, Joe Blow takes off from work to go to the polling place to vote and is told "you already voted". Joe is shown the scrawl next to his name and denied a ballot.

Joe Blow wants to show photo ID but because it's not required, no one will pay attention to him.

That's how voting works in California. And if you don't like it, you are a racist, leave the state.

In Massachusetts, right?

Doesn't surprise me, if we're talkin' 'bout MA...if this happened in the US Congress, some heads will have to roll in a couple weeks.

I wonder what percentage of the total vote for each party is represented by fraudulent votes... If those numbers could be determined honestly and accurately I think it would clearly explain why one party is always opposed to elimination of voter fraud...

'zactly, DTS. Now start writing letters to whomever is in charge of elections and let them know that the Fruit of the Loom wearing American public is demanding VBMIYBVD.

I know voter fraud would go down massively if photo IDs were required along with a concurrent statewide effort to make certain that one ID equals one vote. Further, it appears to me that the political party(ies) that resist photo ID are knowingly engaged in voter fraud. Since Democrats most strongly exist photo ID..... well, you probably get the picture.

Since the argument against photo ID is that it works like a "poll tax" (i.e. poor people get excluded since they can't afford photo ID), then by all means make voter IDs free to those with no drivers licenses.

Gonzo67

Only problem is, Illegals can get State issued Drivers license in most states. So that solves nothing. Don't take that as my being against using identification to vote, I am all for that. I would not mind at all if you were required to show your drivers license, social security card, birth certificate, and have a notarized signed affidavit from a credible attorney (if such a creature exists that is), I am all for adding 50 extra steps to the voting process if it means that Juan Burrito and his 35 children don't have a say in AMERICAN elections.

I think what needs to be done is every time we pick up an illegal, just before we ship his ass back across the border, we get a surgeon with a great big needle and a very small computer micro-chip, and lo-jack that spicks ass before we send him packing. That way, if he shows back up on American soil, we can track his ass down with a GPS and put a lead pill in his brain pan.

If we start offing some of these illegal taco-merchants, the rest will get the hint that they are not really wanted here, and either crawl back to their third world cesspool, or do the work, and follow the procedure to become a LEGAL American.

I'm getting sick of people using those same old tired ass Liberal arguments.

"Without the 'Undocumented Workers', you'll have to clean your own house and mow your own lawn..."

REALITY: I ALREADY DO!

"People can't be 'Illegal', there is nothing 'Illegal' about Juan 'Spicky' Rodreguez!"

REALITY: EXCEPT HIS ACTIONS!

"They're just doing the jobs American's don't want to do."

REALITY: BULLSHIT! They are doing the jobs that Americans don't want to do for A DOLLAR FIFTY AN HOUR! Pay an honest wage, and you'll have 50 Americans at your door willing to do the work.

After we're done with the illegal wet backs, I say we get right to work on the Liberals. I have extra ammo.
