Bangladeshi economist Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank he founded won the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for grassroots efforts to lift millions out of poverty that earned him the nickname "banker to the poor."

Yunus, 66, set up a new kind of bank in 1976 to lend to the very poorest in his native Bangladesh, particularly women, enabling them to start up small businesses without collateral.

In doing so, he pioneered microcredit, a system copied in more than 100 nations from the United States to Uganda.

..Did the Nobel Peace Prize committee stop drinking the liberal "kool aid" and award a truly worthwhile Peace Prize for a change? :D

It is truly a deserving honor. The success of Grameen Bank demonstrates that the best way out of poverty is good old fashioned capitalism. :thumb:

Good point, Ray. I wonder if the lightbulbs in the Nobel committee ever thought of that. :)

Off-topic, I wonder what the Kool-Aid Company thinks about its product being equated with Flavor-Aid, the suicide drink of the Guyana dumbasses? I see O'Reilly uses Kool-Aid mistakenly also.

Guyana happened a generation ago and nobody even remembers. I thought it was Kool-Aid, too. :(

CHEER UP, CHARLIE
GIVE ME A SMILE

DON'T YOU KNOW YOUR GRIN HAS ALWAYS BEEN
MY SUNSHINE
LET THAT SUNSHINE SHOW
COME ON, CHARLIE
NO NEED TO FROWN
DEEP DOWN YOU KNOW THE WORLD IS STILL YOUR TOY
WHEN THE WORLD GETS HEAVY
NEVER PIT-A-PAT 'EM
UP AND AT 'EM, BOY
SOMEDAY SWEET AS A SONG
CHARLIE'S LUCKY DAY WILL COME ALONG

I remember vividly when the Guyana horror happened, and I thought it was Kool-Aid.

I'll bet Kool-Aid is what was first reported, and it stuck in the mind of the public.

Well, kool-aid has become like kleenex or zerox or spam -- a generic name for something.
