Christian to sue British Airways over cross

A committed Christian said today she planned to take legal action against her employers British Airways after the airline ruled that displaying her crucifix breached uniform rules

Heathrow check-in worker Nadia Eweida was sent home after refusing to remove the crucifix which breached BA's dress code.

Her treatment by BA - which styles itself as the "world's favourite airline" - brought condemnation both from Christian groups and members of other faiths last night.

OK, from a safety perspective, I've asked employees to tuck in any necklaces that might cause a problem. That's the only reason why th eairline could have a reason for thier request. I cannot imagine why this would be the issue in an airliner, so why would they ask her to remove it? If there was a "universal" ban on necklaces, fine, otherwise, I hope she is allowed to wear her cross whenever she wants.

These airlines and others are going about it all wrong. Instead of making some people take off their religious jewelry, they should encourage everyone to wear religious jewelry except where it would cause a safety hazard. Rather than make exceptions for one or two, open it up for all.
