...no, not THAT southern border

China Erects Fence Along N. Korea Border

China has been building a massive barbed wire and concrete fence along parts of its border with North Korea in the most visible sign of Beijing's strained ties with its once-cozy communist neighbor.

Scores of soldiers have descended on farmland near the border-marking Yalu River to erect concrete barriers 8 to 15 feet tall and string barbed wire between them, farmers and visitors to the area said.

Last week, they reached Hushan, a collection of villages 12 miles inland from the border port of Dandong.

"About 100 People's Liberation Army soldiers in camouflage started building the fence four days ago and finished it yesterday," said a farmer, who only gave his surname, Ai. "I assume it was built to prevent smuggling and illegal crossing."

This is sad, though. They're literally starving to death in NoKo and no way out.

…and yet those not in concentration camps remain fanatically loyal to “The Great Leader”. Of course in a communist society their view of the world is whatever Kim Jung decides it to be. As far as the starving peasant in NK knows, Americans have a shortage of wood bark to eat and have lights out by 8:30 instead of 9:00 PM.

The Chinese are smart! They probably caught wind of our southern border problem and though, "we're not getting caught up in the same mess of caring for the people of another country. Screw that!"

This is sad, though. They're literally starving to death in NoKo and no way out. They, like all of us, are the products of their own decisions... It is not sad... It is a volitional choice those people have made - and continue to make from one day to the next... It is not the responsibility of neighboring countries to take on the responsibilities of the bad decisions of outsiders...

I dont blame China for fencing North Korea off... If this fence makes the Chinese feel more protected from cross border refugees, they might be more willing to get on board with us on stiffer sanctions against that little monster...

Reminds me of Human Rights Watch criticizing Israel for their border wall separting them from the West Bank to "box in" and "contain" the "poor, helpless palestinians".... who try to blow them up.

But HRW doesn't mention Egypt's huge Apartheid Wall (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=21298&only) built not to keep Gaza Strip bombers out, but because they don't want the filthy palestinians wandering into their racism.

The media double standards are mindblowing.

The "enthusiasm" for Kim is forced. No doubt a few believe that shit, but most do what they must to survive another day. The only "decisions" people can make involve which blade of grass to pull for dinner.

This, not Saddam, is true totalitarianism -- Big Brother in the flesh. No escape from him. To say that that isn't sad, and that those not in concentration camps "love" this scum, is to betray a complete failure to grasp the situation. I'm not surprised, but I am just a little disappointed.

I saw something a while back from a lady who visited North Korea. She said the people were extremely nice, were quite well fed and housed, and truly loved their government and government officials. The interviewer then asked if she was accompanied by an official 'escort' wherever she went, that determined all locations and listened to all conversations. "Why, yes. Why?"

Some people are just that dumb.
