OK. I didn't see one so I guess this is it. As a long time Cards fan, I am excited. The Cards haven't won the fall classic since 1982. The Tigers haven't won since 84'. It's still anybody's series at this point: 1-1. The series moves to St. Louis tonight. Obviosly I feel good about our chances if we can take two out of the three games in St. Louis. However, neither team, both of which started the playoffs as underdogs, didn't get to this point by rolling over at the first sign of trouble.

Hey, TS yea I had thought of starting one myself. Life long Tigers fan here so we can have some fun with it. Game 3 about to start and may the best team win it and the series. I like the Tigers' chances if they take just one away even though they lost the first at home.
Here we go.

Hey FederalFarmer. Isn't it great that for the second year in a row neither of the teams in the World Series are from the East or West Coasts.
Carpenter had it going tonight. Some good defense helped as well. I think the Cards bats are starting to heat up again. Still, I would like to see more hitting with runners on base, espeically out of Belliard. I don't know that we can count on the Tigers to give us two runs every game.
Forcast (http://www.crh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?CityName=Saint+Louis&state=MO&site=LSX) calls for rain in St. Louis tommorrow night.
Last night FSN showed Game 1 of the 68' World Series between the Cards and Tigers. Bob Gibson was pitching for the Cards; Mike Shannon, who is now one of the Cardinals radio broadcasters, was playing third; Tim McCarver who is a commentator with Joe Buck for the current Series was the Cards catcher. Bob Gibson set a new World Series strikeout record and won the game. The Cardinals went on to lose the series. I don't want to see history repeat itself in that regard.

Good to see no NY team in it for sure. Carpenter did pitch a gem last night. Overall the Tigers hitting is not there when they have someone on base, especially in game 2 when they stranded way too many. So far I think the Cards have outpitched the Tigers and may well continue to do so. Verlander and Robinson did not match their opponents' performances. If the Tigers don't win tonight the Cards will win the series IMO. I look for the Tigers to bring in more punch for the lineup next year.
I remember watching the 68 series and how we couldn't believe the Tigers came back to win it. Wish we had a Lolich clone about now.

Well, no baseball tonight. That's too bad too. I felt the Cards had some momentum. After last night, I hate to see the Tigers bullpen get any rest. The weather forcast (http://www.crh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?CityName=Saint+Louis&state=MO&site=LSX) does not look good for baseball tommorrow night either. Brand new stadium, but no retractable roof. That's OK. I prefer old school anyway.

Tonight was a nail-biter. Casey obviously had his hitting shoes on. The Cards got the hits when they really needed them. It was great to see Eckstein hitting again. More Tiger errors helped as well. That was a tough one for the Tigers when Granderson slipped in the Outfield. Apparently that happened to the Cardinal's Curt Flood in the 68' St. Louis/Detroit Series. Suppan wasn't as sharp in this game, but he kept us in it. By the way, did anyone see the Anti-Amendment 2 commercial he was in.
:claps:
It looks like it will be Weaver against Verlander tommorrow night. Hopefully the game won't get rained out.

Eckstein and Spiezo are world series winners. They are both very good playoff players and it will be interesting to see them be in another world series winning team again. Eckstein and Spiezo were teamates in 2002 Anaheim Vs San Fagisco which they played a big part in defeating SF.
The Cardinals were very wise to acquire those 2 players. The dumbass GM for Anaheim didnt think so even though they proved their post season stuff.
Cardinals have got the best post season offense lineup.
Pujols - Very good HR hitter and very good base hitter.
Edmonds - Good HR hitter and good base hitter.
Eckstein - Very good post season leadoff base hitter
Then theres Rolen and Spiezo who also have show some real good skills with the bat.
I remember when eckstein caught the last out in game 7 2002 against the queerish SF giants. Perhaps maybe he will do that again tomorow.
Now about Jeff Weaver. He's a gamble, he might pitch a shutout or allow too many runs in 5 innings. I was amased how well he has pitched this post season compared to his horrible season stats. Jeff Weaver is another player Anaheim tossed to Cardinals and they simply made him into a great post season pitcher.
Detroits problem is that their pitching has fallen down and their hitting has turned weak. This was a problem in the regular season when detroit went back and forth from having a good offense and pitching to bad pitching and offense. Various pitchers on Detriot had ERAs that went from the top 10 to the top 20 back and forth. Detroit had very good months and some bad weeks during the season. The last game of the season they lost to the worst team 'Kansas City Royals' like 4 times. It was really a gamble if detroit could keep its pitching streak going but it appears now that they will lose tomorow.

Managers don't win ball games. Players do.
That is true but after looking at the Cubs roster it appears their manager wasnt that great. Managers have played a great role in recent world series. Ozzie Guien played a big role for the CWS, Tony La Rusa and Jim Leyland are recent examples of this. Joe Torre on the otherhand is stuck with players that dont seem to have the post season edge.
I believe Pinella can do it even though the odds are against the cubs.
No one thought much of Mike Scioscias managing talent with his '1 game at a time' belief and his 'small ball NL style' belief. Hell he pushed his team thru it and the players on his time like him alot. Pinella can do the same and pull the cubs together for a post season in 2007 however I think it wont happen next year but I am thinking possibly in 08 or 09 the Cubs could be in the World Series with Pinella.

I believe Dusty Baker managed the 2002 Giants. I remember when the Cards played them in the NLCS. The Giants carried a very arrogant showboat attitude on the field. An example was when one of the Cards (forget who) got thrown out at home plate. After applying the tag, Santiago (the catcher) jumped up and mimicked unholstering pistols and gunning down the runner. As I remember it, Lofton acted like a jerk as well during that series. I ended up seriously disliking the giants not because they won, but because of their unprofessional attitude.
Dusty baker went on to manage the Cubs who seemed to develop the same attitude; turning what to me was a friendly rivalry between the Cards and Cubs, into a rivalry full of hard feelings. To me, the common denominator was Baker.
I can't help but think that the attitude and work ethic of a baseball team is at least in part a reflection of the manager.

The Tigers are playing like a teenager on his first date going to the prom. Their bats and fielding have sucked the entire series and last night I knew they were going to lose when they decided three runs were enough; I shut it off after Rodney threw the game away, and don't intend to waste any more time with it. Am I peeved? Damn straight.
I hope the Tigers spend this off-season looking for a hitter who thrives on coming to the plate, bottom of the 9th, 7th game of the World Series scenario, a Kirk Gibson type. I'd trade half of this lineup of "tigers" for one Tiger like that.

For what its worth the Tigers did very well this year with their lineup which is made mostly of veterans who were a gamble when Detroit signed them. They beat the Yankees !:thumb: you gotta enjoy that even if you lose the WS. I had to deal with having only to say 'we beat the yankees in 05' after my team was eliminated.

I hate the Giants, not as much as the yankees but they are up there along with Oakland. Baker can pull a team into the playoffs but he cant seem to win a series lately. He lost the WS in 02 and lost in the playoffs 03 to the marlins.
My reason for not liking the giants is soley based on the city of san fagisco which is a liberal cesspool with a nasty crime rate. Theres a big rivalry between Anaheim and Oakland and for the most part its because of where Oakland is(Bay Area Liberal cesspool) and Anaheim(GOP leaning Conservative enclave of california).
Dusty baker should manage the Oakland As where he will get along well with 'Milton Bradley' whos temper leads to being ejected many times. Last few games of the 06 season Milton Bradley got himself ejected like 2 times rofl. I'm sure baker leading Oakland will motivate Sciosia to push harder against oakland hehe. Well oakland fired their manager...perhaps Baker will work for oakland rofl.:rotflmbo:

Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the season and they accomplished alot more than most of us thought they could. Heck, even Leyland said he didn't expect things to come together this quickly. That's the problem though, from my perspective, that they didn't grow as a team into a contender and go through some of the growing pains that build mature character. I think it possible they will be a better team next year, particularly if they find a very good hitter that will make the other hitters better as well. On the other hand you have the plans of mice and men.

Don't give up so easily FF. I was saying before St. Louis clinched the division that whoever won the NL Central would probably not make it past the first round of the playoffs. Look where both our teams are now. From what I have seen, the Tigers have a class act manager. Regardless of what happens, (and as much as I love baseball, I hope tonight is the last game till next season), I think both teams and managers have come a long way just to get here.

I watched the 68 Tigers come back to win after being down 3-1 in the Series, but that was in their character; they weren't called the "Cardiac Kids" for nothing. This team needs more seasoning and I don't have a problem with that. I watched the Red Wings through many agonizing seasons before they finally understood what it took to win a Stanley Cup; it was worth it, because they won 3 during the Yzerman era. :thumb:

Congrats to David Eckstein(Former AnaheimAngel) for his worldseries hit streak that imo was more valuable then Pujols HRs. I'd say he's the MVP imo. I wanted the tigers to win but I am happy with the cards too, afterall David Eckstein(world series champion 2002) got his second worldseries winning year in MLB. Jeff Weaver had a pathectic season but he's a winner in the post season. Truly amasing stuff.

He did it in Anaheima and he did it in St Louis.
