49ers Plan to Relocate Team Away From San Francisco
Thursday, November 09, 2006
SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco 49ers ended negotiations with the city about building a new stadium and plan to move to either Santa Clara or somewhere else in California, The Associated Press learned Wednesday night.
Owner John York notified Mayor Gavin Newsom of the team's decision earlier Wednesday, a city official close to the negotiations told The AP on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made.
Team spokesman Aaron Salkin declined to comment Wednesday night. Phone messages left on the office and cell phone of Lisa Lang, the 49ers vice president for communications, were not immediately returned.
The sides had been talking over the last few months about building a privately financed stadium at Candlestick Point that was going to be part of the city's bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics......http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,228300,00.html

Call me an old fuddy duddy but I am sick and tired of teams "Relocating" for money. The Colts belong in Baltimore, The Rams belong in Los Angelos, The Cardinals in St Louis, The Real Browns belonged in Cleveland and the Oilers belonged in Houston.

Wouldnt be much of a change if the 69ers moved to Boston.

Actually they probally are leaving because of the 'Universal Healthcare' they have to pay for the workers at the stadium.

My guess is the 49ers will stay in the Bay Area unless there's a new stadium already built in L.A. or Anaheim when their lease at the "Stick" runs out. Al Davis moved the Raiders to L.A. with promises that the Coliseum would only be a temporary home. Thirteen seasons later, with his team still playing in the Coliseum, he'd had enough and brought the Raiders back to the Bay Area.

L.A. 49ers of Anaheim?
Anaheim is in OrangeCounty. People still call the Angels 'Anaheim Angels' for a very good reason...Anaheim is not LA and LA sucks. Too many Liberals in LA.

49ERS ON THE MOVE
Plenty of wobble in the 49ers' stadium spin
Scott Ostler (mailto:sostler@sfchronicle.com)
Friday, November 10, 2006
The 49ers are at that awkward in-between-stadiums stage.
They outgrew the kozy konfines of Kezar, they're searching for their dream home, and in the meantime they're camping out in an abandoned baseball park at Candlestick Point.
Good news, though. A new football stadium looms. Thursday, the 49ers held a news conference to announce their intention to build in Santa Clara.
No, Santa Clara is not San Francisco. You can tell by the lower skyline. But Santa Clara offers the 49ers something San Francisco doesn't. Right now nobody, not even the 49ers, is sure what that something is, but it must be really cool!
I was at the news conference and I will now take questions, in an attempt to clarify the deal. <hr>
Q: Exactly what's up?
A: The cost to build a stadium. Over the last few years the estimated cost of a new 49ers stadium has gone up nearly $100 million per year. It's a taxi meter on steroids. The 49ers say a new stadium will cost $700-$800 million now, and they won't start building for at least four years.
Somebody has to pay the tab, so get ready for the $37 Candlestick beer.SF Chronicle (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/11/10/SPGVPMA8AI1.DTL)

I already knew the official name was changed to 'Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim' but if you had read my post more clearly you would see that I was pointing out that most fans call them Anaheim Angels instead of the official 'LA Angels'. Yes most of you folks in LA want to steal our team...figures.
However most fans still call them 'Anaheim Angels' or 'California Angels'. You should improve your spelling. First line you messed up on one word. In second line you forgot a period. In the third line 'now days' is missing a 'a' in it and this part 'I think more Angel fans than dodger fans in SO CAL' should be like this 'I think Theres more angels fans then dodger fans in so cal'.
Dont take this the wrong way but are you some 12 year old from Los Angeles ? :rotflmbo:

1. Correction http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chargers Chargers started in LA for one season only then moved to San Diego in 1961 and its been that way since. So yes we had a team of our own in california.
2. Correction San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers were in California in 1958
3. They spent only 5 years in LA and moved to Anaheim in 1966.
4.Pacific Coast League was not part of the AL or NL. 1903 there was quite a few teams from california that started that year. So there isnt really a 'First'.
5. The only reason it was renamed to 'Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim' was for pure marketing reasons which boosted the teams income and sales.
6. Currently they only have a world series title as the 'Anaheim Angels'.

Wazup with Trent?
He got knocked out in week#1 with a bad concussion. Although he's OK now, Damon Hourde (sp) has done so well that they have kept him as the starter.
I'm worried about this week's game as the Chiefs historically have a rough time with Miami, no matter how bad they may be.

The Rams were in Los Angelos as I grew Up, That is where they belong. The Cardinals moved to St Louis the year I was born, that is where they belong. You can hang your technicalities, The REAL Browns were hijacked to Baltimore and named after a poem.
I detest moving teams with long traditions. The Colts Belong in Baltimore! The Chiefs were not in Dallas long enough to establish a tradition. The Oilers belong in Houston not in Tennessee playing in USFL uniforms.

It seems appropriate that San Francisco would try and get the Packers to relocate there.
PS: Vietnamese Americans are solidly Republican because they know which party supported them against the communists and which party always prefered the communists and ended up pulling all support from them, signaling the last communist attack.
