Melanie Morgan
The country is buzzing about Rush Limbaugh's post-election comments that he felt liberated now that he would no longer have to shill for those who had not earned his unequivocal support.
Limbaugh said, "I feel liberated, ladies and gentlemen, because I feel like I don't have to carry the water for people that I think don't deserve to have their water carried."
Limbaugh's success as a talk-radio host comes from his incredible talent at analyzing the lay of the land, breaking down the issues of the day for his audience and seeing things that most people miss when sizing up a news story or political debate.
For the past few years, Rush has grown increasingly disenchanted with Republicans in Congress and inside the Bush administration who repeatedly put their own personal and political interests ahead of the interests of this nation.

I listened to those words live on Wednesday. I remember thinking that he may have just set himself up for being labeled as an insincere commentator from here on out.

Yep. Sorry, Rush. That was not very bright of you. Too much honesty is not advisable in politics.

He should have said that he felt vindicated because the voters told the Repub party the same thing he has been saying ... act Republican and stop being Democrat-wanna be's ...

Well I heard what he said and as with all statements Rush makes, the MSM has twisted it far beyond recognition of his original intent... They take his comments out of context and in this example specifically, they have tried to make it sound like he has been lying to his listeners all these years...
Im suprised that anyone on this board would actually attach the slightest credibility to any MSM "report" of something Rush said... I mean, really....

Rush hit the nail on the head. I wish he would have undressed some of these RINO's much sooner so we wouldn't have to deal with 2 years of Botox Betty.

"they have tried to make it sound like he has been lying to his listeners all these years..." that's the reaction I had when I read the NewsMax article. I suppose I'm in a small minority here, but Rush Limbaugh turns me off more than any conservative talk show host. He did a lot to help Republicans take back Congress in 1994, but this time around, he jumped the gun on the Michael J. Fox ad.

I listen to Rush too. What Melanie Morgan said is right on. The reason we lost this time was because conservatives in Congress were not being forceful enough on a number of issues.

If you want to know what Rush is saying, listen to his show - get the raw Rush verbage straight from Rush without having it sifted and massaged into a media shock story...
The media storey about his Micheal J Fox comments were a total distortion of what he said to the point of being a bald face media lie... If you dont like Rush's personality, that's your privilage - But dont be foolish enough to get your Rush news from the media... If you're gonna do that, go ahead and get your news about the Iraq war from Al Jazeera... It'll be just about as accurate... Sheesh!
And Rush didnt say anything in his "I feel Liberated" comments than what most of us have been saying here on this board for months... He didnt say anything that we havent ranted about in depth for the last 3 days...

Wake up, Sanity... Stop getting your Rush quotes from the Media... If you want to know what Rush is saying, listen to his show - get the raw Rush verbage straight from Rush without having it sifted and massaged into a media shock story...I've heard more of Rush's show than I care to take in. I remember him going all ballistic about Bill Richardson's state of emergency on illegal immigration. He was basically shouting down Republicans for supposedly letting Democrats hijack the illegal immigration issue. For as many McCains as we've got, we won't get anywhere on the issue without border-conscious Democrats. While there are very few of them, we can't rely solely on Republicans, unless we want to lose on every issue.

Sheesh!:rolleyes:There you go again with the media, the media, the media, with no backing for your argument. No wonder liberals are laughing at us. I am well-aware of Rush's uninformed critique of Michael J. Fox, that he "didn't take his medication", when it turns out Fox was overmedicated. Do you honestly believe that he is faking his symptoms?
And Rush didnt say anything in his "I feel Liberated" comments than what most of us have been saying here on this board for months... He didnt say anything that we havent ranted about in depth for the last 3 days...Personally, I find it hypocritical that some on here suggest that Ken Mehlman "has to be fired" because he's not married, and therefore, not a "real conservative." Yet, Rush has had more wives than I have fingers per hand.
As for the comment, unless you're an abstract-thinker, it suggests that he is tired of cheerleading for phony conservatives. It's hard to "feel liberated" that we "don't have to carry the water" for Rick Santorum, Jim Talent, Mike DeWine, and George Allen.
Lincoln Chaffe may be the LONE exception, the only RINO we lost this election. Everyone else we lost was a casualty for the conservative movement. We lost a lot of good people this election.

Well, the bottom line is that you are still taking the media's translation of what Rush said... You refuse to listen to Rush because you dont like him, and you prefer to get your Rush news from the very people who want nothing more than to drive him off the air... And you dont see the hole in that logic...
If that is going to be your source of info on Rush, I dont see what the point is of debating this issue...

So put Rush's quote into its proper context. What else could he have meant by...
"I feel liberated, ladies and gentlemen, because I feel like I don't have to carry the water for people that I think don't deserve to have their water carried?"
...other than what I previously suggested?
What other translation is there?

Pull yer head out. You just answered your own question. He was overmedicated on purpose. So, yes, he was faking his symptoms in the ad.
You also gulped down the same media shit re the Iraq war in other threads. You probably thought Katrina was a failure of the federal government too.
What? Did CNN date rape you?

Why don't you just go to his site and read the transcript? In fact, I think someone even posted a thread on it here on the forum somewhere.

What? Did CNN date rape you?I am aware that there has been a lot of progress in Iraq, but that does not mean there has been no bad news, either. You need not worry, I know Ted Turner is a vicious media whore whose network is loaded with empty suits. But that does not mean that the alternative media is always right, either.

What other translation is there?Listen and learn... What he said was precisely what I and many others on thie board have been saying for months... He is sick of carrying the water for a bunch of nutless wonders who pissed away the aboslute power we gave them for the last 6 years...
So...AM...I!!!!!! Like Rush I sick of trying to cajole and prop up a bunch of Country Club Republicans who are ashamed of being labeled Conservative, who abandoned the Conservative base that put them in power, who forgot that Reagan Conservatism is what put the momentum back in the Republican party, and who tried to out-liberal the Liberals...
If you have forgotten what the Republican Majority "did for us" I would refer you to Wyatt's very good list of legistlative milestones that the Pubs gave us over the last 6 years...

I got an e-mail from a friend last night who totally understood it. "Rush, I loved your water carrying comment. It's so true. I was thinking about just how awful presidential debates have been, well, forever. Not one minute of those debates would make for good talk radio. The fact is the best candidates the parties offer up can't present their cases very well, or don't.
"They're desperate for help in making their arguments, neither side looks very good right now without the media. I was scared every time Bush had a debate, the Democrats were scared every time Kerry had a debate. I was scared when Ford had a debate. I was scared once when Reagan had a debate..."
It sheds light on the topic - that he is tired of having to defend conservatives who can't defend themselves. That's exactly what I was looking for.
