They need to know
Carolyn Hileman

I find it funny that the democrats who had no idea what their message was much less how to get it out now has an even bigger problem, they are not sure which so-called mandate they have been given… The night of the election it was the Iraq war, as of yesterday it was immigration, they have even thrown in tax cuts for the rich and a few other things… They have some real problems on the immigration theory since most of their candidates ran on almost the same ticket as the republicans and some coming out even harder because they knew this was going to be the decisive issue.

However, just as the democrats have always done they will discuss the issue, if they do actually do anything it will be the exact opposite as they claimed they would. You can bet the Kennedy/McCain bill will show up again and the people will once again throw a fit and if we get lucky they will figure out they have a problem. You see in just about two years give or take a day they will have to answer to the people as to what they have done to secure our borders and since they honestly believe they won on that issue they will encourage their people, you know the illegal immigrants to go out and march, and we all know what that is going to do.

None of these people have the slightest clue what the election meant and that includes the republicans or they never would have gotten rid of Rumsfeld. The democrats are dancing around everything simply because they have no clue which of their messages got out, the republicans are backing up and hiding simply because they don’t know which of their messages brought them down and as a result there is not going to be much done any time soon. You see they have no clue what this riot was all about and it is our duty to tell them, we need to tell them that we were disgusted with the fact that they kept telling us that if they had the majority more could get done and when we gave it to them nothing got done, they need to know.

They need to know that yes the war in Iraq did have something to do with this, it was not that we wanted out but that we were sick and tired of it being the only thing being discussed and hearing how we must keep our country secure when they insisted on leaving the border wide open and even planned to give amnesty to the ones already here. They need to know that we thought they looked really stupid saying undocumented like it made it better. Now if we don’t make it our business to educate these people and fast then we can say nothing in 2008 when it all falls down around us, we have a duty to regain control of our party and point it in the right direction, if it means calling them daily or emailing them daily, they need to know.

Carolyn, I have read all of your pieces and you have pointed out what we all feel. I truly believe the mandate that the 'Rats were given was a, "we're giving you 2 years to fix this mess or you're gone," mandate! They have been heckling the GOP for 3 years and are now in a position to put up or shut up, and with no plan, look for most if not all house seats to switch back to the GOP in '08.

Maggs, don't get pessimistic on me. You are not allowed to post until you have had lunch, you are grumpy in the morning:biggrin:

LOL. It's noon here. And no, I haven't had lunch yet.

I'm not pessimistic, love. I'm realistic.

Anyway. Maybe I'm wrong and then, you'll be able to say "I told you so." Believe me, it'll be music to my ears.

Actually I tend to side with Maggie... This whole election was a national knee-jerk and Im not sure any of it can be anaylzed much deeper than that... Those swing votes who put the Dems in charge (and its always the swing votes - never the solid right or Left) didnt actually put any deep thought into their decision... They just knew they were not comfy and they are changing brands to see if the discomfort goes away...

In any event, the next two years will prove to be interesting... I dont believe it will be gloom and doom - not yet anyway... That cant happen until either a Dem takes the Whitehouse or unless Mr Bush decided to be "Bi-Partisan" in his final days...

The Dems are in an awkward position... They have control of Congress and those who put them there are waiting to see what they will do - Only they really cant DO much of anything... They have blustered and ridiculed the Pubs for six years and talked all that big talk about how much better they could do it... Well its time to walk the walk...

And guess what? - They dont have Plan 1....

On election night I saw Chris Matthews interviewing Howard Dean and he asked Dean point blank, what was the Democratic Plan for dealing with Iraq... Dean literally froze like the proverbial deer in the headlights... Matthews asked the same question 3 times and Dean simply changed the subject all three times... The best he could come up with was that the Dems were going to get together and have a plan...

Im beginning to think the Dems really didnt believe they were gonna win... I think this victory came as a bigger suprise to them than anyone else...

Here's another take (http://www.informz.net/pfm/archives/archive_352621.html) on why we lost

Conservatives lost because they deserved to. They failed to live up to the high standards of personal behavior they preach about. And that's what brought them down.

I'm not sure I agree that the 'pubs lost by the "evangelical vote" as much as by the "stupid voters" vote! Most evangelicals that I know are strongly pro-life, etc. and voted 'pub. The "stupid voters" are those in both parties who are "undecided" three days before the election, who are really ignorant of the issues, and thus easily swayed by the MSM, polls, attack ads, etc. This time the 'rats lured them their way just like "It's the economy, stupid" did for Clintoon in '92. In '94, they were swayed by Newt's "Contract with America."

I'm not sure I agree that the 'pubs lost by the "evangelical vote" as much as by the "stupid voters" vote! Both were contributions, as we all know. The "stupid voters" are factors in every election.

They are the dog that finally caught the car. Now they don't know what the heck to do with it.That's an interesting comment. Now, they're thinking "We're running out of things to bitch about."

I can't say they didn't TRY to win, though.

Nobody got no mandates in this election.
