A tower of power, he stands 7 feet 1 inch, weighs 325 pounds, and bears a tattoo of Superman's signature "S" on his massive left arm. Yet NBA great Shaquille O'Neal protects himself off the basketball court with more than his physical might and inky bond with the Man of Steel.
He is licensed to carry a concealed weapon.

Handgun ownership is much less prevalent in Major League Baseball and rare in the National Hockey League.
NHL is pretty much 100% white so its safe to say they dont come from or hang around black towns where crime is rampant. MLB has alot of White, Hispanic and Blacks so you would see a few having to protect themselfs when they go back to their 'hoods' and/or hometown.
Players and team officials estimated a vast majority of NBA and NFL athletes carry firearms -- legally or illegally -- and that the number of handgun owners among them has reached an all-time high.
NBA and NFL is mostly black and alot of them come from not so nice towns and so they have to own guns to protect themselfs when they go back home or visiting family in the 'hood'.

Heres one of Pro-NRA former NBA basketball players.
Karl Malone
Malone enjoys outdoors sports such as fishing and hunting and is also a staunch supporter of the National Rifle Association (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Rifle_Association); he once referred to himself as an "African-American redneck." He was the spokesperson for an outdoors media company, AmazingOutdoors.com with Bryan Brandenburg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryan_Brandenburg). He now lives in Choudrant, Louisiana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choudrant%2C_Louisiana) and Newport Beach, California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport_Beach%2C_California).
He has considered running for governor of Arkansas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governor_of_Arkansas) on the Republican Party (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_%28United_States%29) ticket.

If I'm not mistaken, SHAQ is a police officer.

Shaq is one of the few people I admire. He's a reserve police officer and has a number of masters degrees. As soon as he gets one, he starts classes for the next. His life is basketball and the University. When gang bangers destroyed a police car after a Lakers game, he replaced it. The Lakers together replaced another. He's an upright person.

Last night on 60 Minutes they made a big to do about the number of athletes that carry. It's as if those guys aren't supposed to be able to protect themselves. The effing press guys need to have a few of their own ilk get mugged by someone with a knife or a baseball bat and then ask them what they'd rather use for protection. Oh, I'm sorry, the left doesn't need protection. They're impervious to logic.

Derrent Williams was shot by a gang banger, he should have been carrying and shot first.
