Sorry I'm Late... Happy Thanksgiving!
I just got back from Gettysburg and the Remembrance Day Parade.
The 39th New York Garibaldi Guard whom I belong to were asked to march in the parade. It was an honor and a privilege to be asked and to participate. The Garibaldi Guard are the rock stars of the Civil War Reenacting Community....for the Yanks at least. But even many of the Rebs buy us drinks. It's all because of our feathers that we ware in our hats. I know I know It sound strange. But it's the truth!
I was asked to carry the American Flag and hold the senior position of the color guard during the parade. That put myself up front of the Parade and leading the Vincent Brigade. Not bad for the second reenactment I have been to!? About 30,000 people came to watch the parade and about 2900 marched in it. Read about it hear

Smoked. My husband stuffs the turkey with pieces of grapefruit, apples, and oranges, then coats the whole bird in honey, wraps it loosely in tinfoil and smokes it all day long on the smoker-grill. I'm not a big Turkey fan, but it really DOES taste good.

No, never tried it but heard lots about it and would really like to try it. We might do one for my son's graduation party next Saturday -- we have 2 turkeys to fix, so we'll probably smoke one and maybe deep fry the other one (if I can find out how long to deep fry it for and what temp to put the frier on).

Leftovers. About three hours after dinner, and twenty minutes before a much deserved nap, when the kitchen has been totally cleaned and everything is in perfect order. The dinner is always such chaos that I never really get to enjoy it.

When six or eight male family members are in the house, there's no way around it.

Not this year. It's something I used to do with my sister-in-law, but she's in California with her sister this year. It's her first Thanksgiving since we lost my brother at the end of August. I'll miss shopping with her. She lives in a one-stoplight town in Oklahoma, and coming to Lubbock for Thanksgiving and shopping was always a real treat for her; Lubbock is such a friendly, easy town to get around in, the crowds never unbearable, and shopping was fun.
