CRISPY FRIED GREEN TOMATOES

CRISPY FRIED GREEN TOMATOES


4 large green tomatoes, sliced 1/4 inch thick
1/4 cup flour
1 egg, beaten
1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce, or to taste
1/2 tsp. salt
dash black pepper
1 cup fine bread crumbs
oil for frying
Coat tomato slices with flour, then dip in egg (seasoned with salt, pepper, and hot sauce) and finally in bread crumbs. Using hedium heat, brown on both sides in a skillet with 1/2" of oil. Serve hot, with extra hot sauce, if desired.

Found this recipe while looking for pickled green tomatoe recipe... never found it. I love them both! Have to wait for summer bumper crop, I guess, to get any green tomatoes! Threw a tomatoe recipe in because of that Oracle thread about tomatoes... not sure if green ones count tho! images/icons/grin.gif

That sounds great!! I haven't had green fried tomatoes since my grandmother made them when I was little. Problem is going to be finding green tomatoes!!
