Illegal immigrants $18 bln boost to Texas: report
DALLAS (Reuters) - The Texan economy would have been almost $18 billion poorer in the last fiscal year without illegal immigrants who added to state coffers but were a drain on local government, says a report by the state comptroller.
.....
"The absence of the estimated 1.4 million undocumented immigrants in Texas in fiscal 2005 would have been a loss to our gross state product of $17.7 billion," said Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn.
.....
"Without the undocumented immigrant population, Texas' workforce would decrease by 6.3 percent. ... The most significant impact would be a noticeable tightening in labor markets," the report says.

Okay.. so how do 'undocumented', a.k.a. ILLEGAL, workers contribute to a state? If they are, aren't they being unfairly taxed as they cannot vote?

And if they deported the barbaric nomadic invaders the unemployment level of AMERICAN TEXANS would go down.

HA! Exactly. I just find it amusing that if the 'state' somehow benefits from the presence of ILLEGALS, then it's good. Hmm.. I guess you can't count on the states for help with this problem either?

If illegals were such a big boon, California would have the lowest tax rates in the nation.
If illegals are so wonderful, how come they can take any city, village, town, hamlet and wide place in the road and make it a depressed area in less than a year.

Mexicos economy is improving partially due to the 'Trash' leaving the country. Basicly they are dumping their dirt on our soil.

That's okay, as long as they are fertilizer.

Some of that goes into the pockets of druglords and the mexican goverment. Mexico by large is still controlled by the PRI Socialists that rely on Illegal Immigration and drug smuggling to stay in power.
Are goverment could do everyone a favor and kill all the Illegals. We would benifet from not having criminals, copkillers, rapists, drugdealers coming into this country and living here illegally. Sounds harsh but it would be the solution resulting in them not coming back.
Mexico would benifet by having the money that keeps the socialists in power gone and the capitalists led by PAN will eventually be able to privatize most of mexico.

Texas made that much money after all the handouts and freebies they've paid out? I guess that's one argument off the table.:flame:

Well, this is a Strayhorn report, she couldn't even name the name of the new president of Mexico during her one and only debate this year.
"Cooking the books" again, this time using "gross state product" to include the amount the iillegals would have earned in wages, as well as how much they think the illegals spent into the economy.
"Undocumented immigrants produced $1.58 billion in state revenues, which exceeded the $1.16 billion in state services they received. However, local governments bore the burden of $1.44 billion in uncompensated health care costs and local law enforcement costs not paid for by the state," Strayhorn added.
Strayhorn's report also estimated that the state spent $957 million on K-12 education for undocumented students during the 2004-05 school year; $58 million for health care services in fiscal 2005; and $130.6 million on incarceration of undocumented immigrants in fiscal 2006.

"This is an historic report," Strayhorn said. "It is the first time any state has done a comprehensive financial analysis of the impact of undocumented immigrants on a state's budget and economy, looking at gross state product, revenues generated, taxes paid and the cost of state services."
The only thing "historic" about her report was the way the numbers were twisted and redefined here.

The whole problem with the report is that it applies to the state. When you factor in the losses to the indivivual cities and counties, the loss is huge, as municipalities have to pay out of their own pockets. The whole notion that criminal aliens benfit the state is intellectually dishonest. Take a look at the cost in uninsured motorist coverage, having to hire extra teachers for ESL, the cost to county hospitals where a mojority of the births are to illegal aliens. The list goes on, but all of this is nothing more than an attempt to show that illegals "can" be beneficial to our economy. It's not the economy, Stupid, it's the illegality.

I think that the state is full of it. But, if true, what are they saying? Illegal activities, so long as it benefits the state, should be endorsed by the state?

If illegals are so good for the Texas economy, why is it that the border counties and South Texas have the highest unemployment and poverty rate in the state? Why the highest percentage of hospitals going bankrupt? Why does money for schools, under the state funding plan, flow from North Texas and East Texas to South Texas?

I dont give a rat's ass what any panderer says about Mexican cockroaches helping Texas. Yes, we have scumbags disguised as Texans here. ALL Mexican cockroaches need to get their asses booted out of here! We have enough domestic cockroaches as it is.

Oh isnt that nice for TEXAS, well maybe Texas can share the wealth with the federal government for the 10.4 billion deficet from unpaid taxes from illegal immigrants. Also, they can donate the remaining 7.6 billion to the hospitals across America. Oh but don't get to excited, there was $21 billion in uncompensated health care services. Wow, I wonder if the government of Mexico would be so kind to me and my family if we immigrated illegally or would we be greeted with the open end of a rifle?
