U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, the eight-term incumbent Democrat whose campaign for re-election was overshadowed by a federal bribery probe, won re-election Saturday in a battle against a well-financed fellow black Democrat.



With 38 percent of the precincts counted, Jefferson, Louisiana's first black congressman since Reconstruction, was defeating state Rep. Karen Carter with more than 60 percent of the vote. Carter was unable to capitalize on a scandal that included allegations the FBI found $90,000 in alleged bribe money in Jefferson's freezer.

Looks like Pelosi's "most ethical Congress ever" will echo Clinton's "most ethical administration ever". Nothing more entrenched or corrupt than a Louisiana Democrat.

Do you need any better example for the failure of "Democracy"? This is why this nation was created as a REPUBLIC! But then, after 1913, we degenerated into a democracy!

Perhaps someone will explain to me why GOP crooks go to jail or at least out of office, while democRATS continue to hold office, are reelected and seldom do time. There is obviously something wrong with both our electoral system and our legal system.

Considering all the spin on Hurricane Katrina, this shouldn't surprise you. It's going to take a much greater local failure for the sheeple to realize the neglect of their local and state leaders.
