1 climber found dead on Mt. Hood

<!-- END HEADLINE --><!-- BEGIN STORY BODY --> By JOSEPH B. FRAZIER, Associated Press Writer 42 minutes ago

Rescuers looking for three missing climbers on Mount Hood found a body Sunday in the area where one of the climbers made a distress call a week ago, authorities said.
The dead climber had not yet been identified, said Pete Hughes, a spokesman for the Hood River County Sheriff's Office. The victim was believed to be one of the three missing climbers, authorities said.
The body was found in a second snow cave near another snow cave where rescuers found a sleeping bag, ice axes and rope, officials said.

These guys are putting a lot of other lives at risk to save theirs too. I can't believe anyone would even try this in December.

I'd rather die of heat exhaustion instead of freezing...if I had to choose. Goodness.

Darwin Award candidates?

Not me. Fie I had to choose, I'd go freezing over heat exhaustion or stroke.

What happened to dying in your sleep?

I'm with Beastie... almost died of heat exhaustion before and I'd pick it again if I had to die.

Darwin Award candidates?

Nah! Some peeps enjoy the challenge of mountain climbing. Now, if some yo-yo wants to try and tobaggan down from the top and dies, THEN I'll nominate him for a Darwin Award.

I just hope none of the Guard guys or other rescue teams are harmed just because 3 guys wanted to get their jollies and couldn't live up to it. I hate these kind of assignments, these guys have to put their lives on the line for someone else's thrill seeking and they aren't specifically trained for those conditions or even interested in doing such things, but get sucked into others "fun" gone wrong.

I think that's possible if you run through the desert wearing a meat jacket. lol

That's not a challenge. Swimming across the Pacific towing your food and water supply behind you. Now there's your challenge.

Why in the heck does anybody climb a mountain knowing he will put several people in danger if a rescue is launched? I think a rescue waiver should be signed first, and shoot any lawyer who tries to challenge it.

Better yet, we should only let lawyers climb mountains. That way, if one croaks on the way up (or down), well, c'est la vie.

I wanna be attacked by coyotes and torn into pieces.Don't piss of Bre'er Fox, then. I've seen him rip up trolls and eat the chunks in three or four gulps. Then he picks his teeth with the needles of a cactus.

Is it cold that I do not really have any sympathy for these guys?

Peachdiane

Why climb a mountain like Hood when clearly the forecast was saying conditions weren't good, to climb? Why climb in December when Christmas is around the corner? No, I don't think you're cold.

Why climb it at all?

Because it's there.

That's an active duty unit. They don't do this kind of stuff. The Guard does EVERYTHING. Flood, Fire, Famine, violence control, finding lost idiots ... none of which is part of the "one weekend a month (yeah right)" training.

That's no reason. It is if you like a life of excitement. And close scrapes with death. Or death. And freezing to death. And falling hundreds of feet to death. Or becoming part of a snowball in an avalanch and falling and freezing to death.

And subjecting others to the same dangers.
