Has anyone ever tried haggis? I mean real haggis? I never have. It sounds gross, but I'd like to hear from someone who really knows.
Here is one recipe. (http://www.pbs.org/kqed/demonbarber/recipes/haggis.html)

Grandpa made it for us, when we visited him as kids. It's not bad. I didn't really have a taste for it as a kid.... but I grew to like it as a young adult. It's not bad.... as long as one isn't squeemish about the sheep stomach part.

Did you see the other recipe for Spotted Dick.
Crow would like that one.
I've never had haggis but I would eat it.
I'd have to spice it up a bit maybe throw in some Hot Peppers and Garlic.

I found this site yesterday. I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw Spotted Dick.
And just look at those other recipes. And they don't even list beans on toast or spaghetti on toast.
British Cuisine: an oxymoron if there ever was one. images/icons/grin.gif

Looks revolting!!
I'd eat http://freeconservatives.com/smilies/spam4.gif before I'd touch that stuff.

Cajun Boudin (pronounced: Boo' dan), or sausage is not quite, but sort of similar.
The stuffings are different (haggis uses some oats, boudin uses some rice), and boudin is heavily spiced (cajun style). I point out that "natural" sausages (the casings) are made with cleaned animal intestines. If one is squeemish, sausages are actually "worse". Of course, these days, most marketed sausages are stuffed into collogen casings, rather than doing it "the old way".

Actually, I did. Hubby and I lived in Scotland for a year and I had plenty of opprtunities to taste the thing.
You may not believe me, but it's delicious.
Granted, it's better if you ignore the ingredients. images/icons/grin.gif

If one thinks of it as the sausage with the casing removed then maybe it's not too bad. I love sausage and sausage is made from "throw-away" parts.
I think I'll send away for some canned haggis and see how I like it.

Boudin recipe (http://www.recipesource.com/main-dishes/meat/pork/00/rec0001.html)
Haggis doesn't sound much different than boudin... & boudin is delicious! I make boudin balls (no pun intended)... just use ground meat & rice, etc mixture, form in ball shape, roll in shake & bake... it is great.
I draw the line with eating spotted dicks... although, bull balls are a big delicatessen item in Texas... & are suppose to be really good... I won't eat them either.
