I received the following via email. It came in the form of a jpeg file and had the appearance of being a newspaper clipping (letter to the editor). I post it here only because it makes SO much sense.
Don't Help People Sit on Their Rears
I have a question, not only for Douglas County, but for the entire state of Oregon. Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me, I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as they see fit.
In order for me to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a urine test which I have no problem with.
What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check, because I have to pass one to go earn it for them?
Please understand, I have nothing against helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sit on their butt. Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Makes sense to me. TOO much sense for it to pass muster with gubmint agencies. As things stand, most of them piss away the money anyhow.

This is apparently the original, from the 12/27/2006 Record-Courier in Gardnerville, Nevada.
Everyone should take a drug test

Don't help people sit on their rears
I have a question, not only for Douglas County, but for the entire state of Nevada and the United States. Like a lot of folks in the state of Nevada, I have a job. I work, they pay me, I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as they see fit. In order for me to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test, which I have no problem with.

Please understand, I have nothing against helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sit on their butt. Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? Just some food for thought.

This blog printed the letter, but ...
Leonard Wilson of Riddle, Oregon wrote the following letter to the Public Forum section of his local newspaper. Folks, this is one of the best ideas I’ve heard in a long time!Don’t help people sit on their rears

Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? What a great idea! Get off the dope, get a job, and support yourself! If you’re an addict, we’ll put you in rehab and help you out while you get clean. After that, get a job.Wish I’d thought of this … (http://morningglory2.wordpress.com/2007/01/03/wish-id-thought-of-this/)
Gardnerville is in Douglas County, NV, and Riddle is in Douglas County, OR. Either there is blatant plagiarism going on or it's the beginning of another urban legend. I checked Riddle, Oregon, and there is no local newspaper.
That aside, the idea is excellent.

Find Riddle on a map and look for the closest town that should have a newspaper. It should be Roseburg or Grants Pass.

To ALL welfare bums--
Never mind the piss test before you get your welfare bum checks. Get off your lazy asses and get a job! It's not my job to take care of lazy SOBs!

Find Riddle on a map and look for the closest town that should have a newspaper. It should be The Dalles, Redmond, or maybe Pendelton. In searching for a source for TW's clipping, I found the blog page cited above. Googling Riddle, OR, the RIDDLE COMMUNITY PROFILE (http://www.epodunk.com/cgi-bin/genInfo.php?locIndex=15439), under Media, links to "Daily newspapers in or near Riddle", which links to the Roseburg News-Review (http://www.epodunk.com/cgi-bin/genInfo.php?locIndex=65417). It's home page is here (http://www.oregonnews.com/).
According to this page (http://www.epodunk.com/cgi-bin/genInfo.php?locIndex=15439), "Riddle is a city in Douglas County, in the Roseburg metro area." Ergo, if Leonard Wilson submitted it to a "local newspaper", the News-Review is it. Using its search function for Leonard Wilson in the "Public Forum" of the paper found nothing.
I suspect that the original was by Eric Guddat, and it was edited for distribution.

Nice work, Doc!
Did you take a urine test?

The Roseburg News-Review (http://www.oregonnews.com/) in Oregon has a section called "Public Forum". The Gardnerville Record-Courier (http://rc.us.publicus.com/) in Nevada has no such section that I can find, I gotta agree with Doc that this probably originated in Oregon.

IMO, the Nevada one was the original. The News-Review has no link to the letter, whereas the Record-Courier has the letter on its website, linked to in post 3. However, if the Nevada letter came later, then the Oregon one might has slipped off the site.
I'll email the News-Record and find out for sure. Enquiring minds want to know. ;)

Then the reference to "Public Forum" is probably erroneous.

Makes sense to me. TOO much sense for it to pass muster with gubmint agencies. As things stand, most of them piss away the money anyhow. That's because the liberals in our governemnt arent geared toward making sense... They are geared toward making the maximum number of people dependant on the government... So a urine test would clearly be counterproductive to their goals...
If you want to establish a totalitarian government, in the early stages, you must make it as easy as possible for the masses to come in and sign up for dependancy...
As for the urine test, at my house, this test involves being able to hit the center of the bowl successfully...

Hey, if it's good enough for our troops, it's good enough for the welfare people.

Here's the info direct from the News-Record.
Thank you for your inquiry. I received the handwritten letter from Leonard Wilson of Riddle, Oregon on Nov. 22, 2006 (his was dated Nov. 20) and it was published in The News-Review on Dec. 1.
We are having some problems accessing our online archives right now, but here is a link to the letter:

Giving a piss test to welfare BUMS is like ensuring one's cockroaches go to bed at a decent time. Americans should make those types of "people" non-existent.
