People in Cali, Colombia, are shocked to see the bond between a large African lion and a woman who saved it from abuse, involving long, affectionate kisses and hugs between the pair. <table class="storyAd" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td class="storyAdObj">
</td></tr></tbody></table> Ana Julia Torres, who runs the Villa Lorena animal shelter in Cali, fed and nursed Jupiter the African lion back to health years ago after it was found abused and emaciated in a traveling circus.

Back before the empire fell apart, there was a cage in the Moscow zoo, with a lion and a lamb in it. The cage had a label, "peaceful coexistance."

"Amazing. How do you do it?" asked a visitor.

"Is each day, a new lamb." replied a keeper.

There is a vet around here that I took my dog to. I noticed a cockateil and a cat in the same cage with the cockateil perched on top of the cat's head. I asked what was going on with these two. Evidently they are inseparable. One cannot go to the doctor without the other as they get highly agitated. If the vet tries to take the cat without the bird, the bird attacks and bites whoever is trying to take his friend away.

Years ago my son had a snake. Every so often we would put a couple of mice in his container. One day we put in a couple of mice and the snake ate one but not the other. We left the mouse in the container thinking the snake would eat it later. He didn't. The snake never ate that mouse. We finally put mouse food in for it to eat so it wouldn't starve to death. The snake would coil up on his hot rock, and the mouse would sleep in the coil. We had to put in other mice for the snake to eat. When we did that, the snake's mouse would go to a corner and wait while the other mice were eaten. The mouse finally died of old age after a year and a half.

Maybe there was something wrong with that mouse and the snake sensed it. Whatever it was, it make the most remarkable pictures and my kid still has them.

The picture is the sweetest most loving picture I have ever seen. It's SOOOOO much better than looking at Rosie O'Donnel's fat face, or sluts like Madonna or Brittany Spears.

Ya gotta love good news, and to a critter-lover, that's good news indeed!

It's fascinating how trust springs up between species. In Panama we bought a race horse off the track to prevent him being put down. He was nervous to begin with, and the drugs they injected to make him run faster made him even harder to calm down. Then our stable cat got involved. I came around the corner one day to see the cat on the top run of the stable wall, rubbing heads with the horse. The horse's head was bigger than the cat's whole body but they obviously enjoyed each other's company. After that the horse came around quickly.

Then there was that story that somebody posted her a coupla years ago about a female lion in a zoo, making buddies with a lamb. Everywhere that lioness went the lamb was sure to go.

The zoo wanted to mate the lioness and put a male in with her. He forthwith ate the lamb and the lioness wouldn't have a thing to do with him after that.

You know the story of Androcles and the lion? Androcles pulls a thorn out of lion's paw, and the lion is grateful. Some times later, Androcles winds up in a Roman circus, and he is expected to fight a gladiator to the death. The gladiator turns out to be Androcles. Although the lion has a chance to kill Androcles, he remembers how Androcles helped him, and so he spares him.

I don't think the story is true. For example, a thorn in my paw wouldn't hurt me.

It might hurt him, though.

didnt roy have a good tiger friend? :D Prolly most folks aren't aware of that story.

Roy Rogers, as all good cowpokes, made a habit of leaving his boots on the porch rather than track mud and cowshit thru the bunkhouse. One day he discovers that his brand new boots have been ripped and torn to shreds during the night. Looking at the remains, Roy concludes it was a mountain lion.

About that time the cowpoke who'd been on duty that night came riding up with the freshly-shot carcass of a mountain lion draped over the pommel. He tosses it on the ground at Roy's feet.

"Pardon me, Roy, is that the cat that chewed your new shoes?"

It's pretty much a cat, is a cat, is a cat.

There are some very slight variations. Cheetah's and Fishing Cats do not have retractable claws.

Animals do indeed recognize when individual people love them and care for them, and they respond accordingly... I still dont know if a critter that has wild instincts should be allowed outside the cage, but I can see how it would show affection for the human that carws for it... I've seen this sort of response more than once...

Here In Birmingham we had a female gorilla that was raised from a baby and cared for by a single individual man... In her adulthood, the decision was made to transfer her to another zoo out of state in an attempt to breed her... It was a more or less permanent move...

Months after her transfer, the zookeeper who had raised her traveled to her new home just see how she was getting along... When she saw him, she instantly ran to the cage bars and reached thru to hold him - I saw the film... It was actually pretty heartbreaking to see how she grieved for who she considered the only family she ever knew... And since gorillas are very family-oriented creatures this was a particularly cruel treatment for this animal...
