I guess they're gonna have to embrace gay marriage.

China will have 30 million more men of marriageable age than women by 2020, making it difficult for them to find wives, according to a national report.

The gender imbalance could lead to social instability, the report by the State Population and Family Planning Commission warned. It found that around 118 boys were born to every 100 girls in 2005.

Basically, Eagle's right. As a means of population control, this "problem" is really the Chinese government's desired outcome. By its using draconian methods to limit a family to one child, and the cultural desire to have a male child rather than a female, the inevitable result is a male-to-female ratio that is much greater than 1:1. Many men will die without reproducing, but this will help to reduce the population explosion, cut down on the consumption of food and other increasingly scarce resources, and probably control global warming to boot!

Once upon a time, there were two Chinese.

Now look how many there are.

This does provide Chinese men with a biological reason for aggression.

It has already started. I was in China in 1998 and read a story in the Hong Kong newspaper that was about gangs kidnapping young women off city streets and selling them to farmers and villagers hundreds of miles away as brides. Think of that problem in the decades to come.

And really opens the market for inflation in prostitution rates. Supply and demand, folks. When sex becomes a commodity, those who have it will charge outrageously to those who want it.

I don't think you guys are getting it.

What use might China have for millions of males without wives and children to worry about?

If some of those men want to get married, they might have to have some surgery and "become" women. If you're a sex-change doctor, China might be a lucrative market in the years to come.

Think about it, soon, women will be an exotic rarity to the Chinese, and might even one day be on the endangered species list....

China has about a billion folks. We know from the article that 30 million of them are bachelors. A billion minus that 30 million equals 970 million people that divides about equally between males and females. Hence China has 485 million females -- more gals than America has people.

Think about it, soon, women will be an exotic rarity to the Chinese, and might even one day be on the endangered species list....If that turns out to be the case, it will of course be all Bush's fault. (They'll blame it on global warming or something that Halliburton did.)

Too bad they're really big on racial purity in China. I say send boatloads of lonely American females over there as mail-order brides, especially the ones who are so bent on turning America into a Marxist utopia. China already has communism in place, so this should REALLY make them happy.

A Chinese friend once explained to me that the government's one-child policy was a reaction to the uglier national reality of infanticide (of female infants). In the cities the girls are simply abandoned and they then become the government's problem, i.e., they are housed, fed, etc in orphanages. In the countryside they are simply murdered. If this situation were allowed to continue unabated China would actually run the risk of having too few people in the future. The friend ran some numbers by me and it made some sense. (But don't ask me to supply the numbers, I didn't retain them). He acknowledged that the program might be too late in its implementation as China was already experiencing a sizeable male-to-female imbalance in population. This was about five years ago.

Anyway, I hear that Haliburton is quietly considering the purchase of Johnson & Johnson......
