Just heard on FOX that the AG will speak to the press at approximately 1:30 p.m. [that will be 2:30 on the East Coast] regarding Nifong's request to be taken off the case.
This could amount to nothing more than the AG saying the case will go forward, all the way to announcing the dismissal of charges.

Well, it went just about how I thought it would.
How would you like to be one of those three grunts in the AG's office who has now had this stinker of a case dropped in your lap to prosecute?
I'd rather have nails pounded into my ear drums.
I did learn one thing: It's three cases. Apparently, Nifong planned on three tirals. I guess that make sense from his point of view: he could prosecute the case that looked the stronges first, and if he got a conviction, the remaining two would be easier.
I'm supposed to be out the "prediction" business, but here goes: Somewhere between thrity and ninety days, the charges will be dismissed against all three boys.
If the invesitgation is as impartial and thorough as the AG promised it would be, I don't see anything but a dismissal of the charges --unless there is something buried in all of the evidence that Nifong is going to turn over that hasn' been made public.
I think if Nifong had a Smoking Gun, he would have made it public.
Here's something I'm wondering about: How long will it take the State Bar of North Carolina to complete their investigation of Nifong and start the process. If the North Carolina Bar conducts business like most states, this will be a "trial," in that it will be held in a courtroom-like setting, witness will be sworn and testimony will be taken, then a panel of lawyers [acting a judges] will deliberate and a decision will be made. That can be anything from a slap on the wrist to disbarment.
I suspect that the Lacrosse Players may even have to testify in the proceeding.
An observation that means nothing, becaue I don't know anything: If the AG's office is disposed to give Nifong cover, the dismissal of the charges against the players won't come until after Nifong's trial; if the AG's office is royally pissed at Nifong for the black eye he's given North Carolina Justice, they may speed their investigation and dismiss the carges first, thus giving the State Bar more ammo for whatever they decide to do to Nifong.

Just a speculation.
I really, honestly don't think Mike Nifong was ever thinking so much about proper justice as he was trying to win the black vote in Durham. I know quite a few North Carolina lawyers and some military lawyers, and most of them wouldn't touch this stinker, as Lubbock puts it, with a 10-foot pole. Too many holes in this case.
Stay tuned, folks, because rumor has it NC Governor Mike Easley (a fellow democrat--surprised?) has been defending Mike Nifong's actions. Some KLEENEX to wipe that egg of your face, Mr. Easley? Needless to say, a lot of Raleigh/Durham politicians have really allowed themselves to be put in a bad position. I guess they were hoping all this dirt wouldn't come out, but they weren't counting on the internet blogs. I'll be amazed if proper justice is ever served in this case.

You're not the first person to make that observation.
