STUDENT CHOKED BY ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

January 12, 2007

It started over a dress code violation, hardly reason enough to throw away an academic career and certainly no reason to be charged with a felony.

"I have goals I want to achieve and this is stopping that," says 17-year old Sabrina Herndon.
Herndon was wearing a jacket and strapless top and was changing in the girl's locker room at Palm Beach Gardens High School.

A teacher noticed the strapless top which is a dress code violation. Herndon says with the jacket though, the top is within dress code.

A male assistant principal then entered the girl's locker room, and within minutes Herndon was in a choke hold.

that would be a little overzealous

i gotta give some slack to assistant principals though, many times they are in charge of punishments and have to deal with some very shady students. i know my assistant principal was always red in the face and had to deal with kids who should have dropped out and gone to learn a trade other than making shanks out of spoons long ago

Looks like Latrell Spreewell has found a new career after basketball.

FWIW, I believe Sprewell majored in social work.

I can't wait to hear the whole story. I tend to go with the AP till I hear more. Most schools are so afraid of their shadow or scumbag lawyers these days it makes you think this guy must have had a good reason.

My school's AP for discipline is a big dude with a red face and the meanest looking scowl I ever seen on anybody. Speaks in a low, raspy voice like the godfather. If anybody ever looked his part, this guy's it.

Ours was our wrestling coach. Need I say more.

The question of course is what prompted the assistant principal to resort to such tactics? Herndon says nothing and says she has witnesses to back her up.

"I did nothing wrong to where he had to use physical force. I had no weapons, I made no threats or anything to him."

The school district also has witnesses who say the assistant principal was justified to use force. --from DeclinetoState's link

Something tells me the assistant principal did not suddenly have a moralistic fart and then snapped. I'm thinking the kid made a physical threat and he spotted it.

Accidental blah smilie deleted.

No mention of what happened during those minutes, just another piss-poor excuse for reporting from our "friends" in the media.

Why did a male need to enter the girl's locker room? There's likely much more to this story.

Yep. There's more.

Chamberlin said he was trying to get Herndon to leave the locker area and, when he placed a right hand on her arm to escort her out, she hit him in the chest, according to the report.

The high school senior explained the incident differently to police, stating that Chamberlin pulled her by the shirt and asked her to leave, but when she refused, Chamberlin grabbed her by the arms, the report states.

Herndon said she pushed Chamberlin off but was choked when the 38-year-old assistant principal placed her against a wall, according to the report.

Chamberlin and the gym teacher deny Herndon was choked, the report states.

Chamberlin called the school police, who arrived to find him physically restraining the student, the report states....

....Herndon was suspended earlier this school year for a different dress code violation, Briggs said....

...."There were several witnesses who attest the allegations are totally untrue," said Harrington, adding that Chamberlin is considered to be "one of the most gentle and caring administrators in the district."....http://www.palmbeachpost.com/pbccentral/content/local_news/epaper/2007/01/12/s1c_skchoke_0112.html

My mother used to work as a substitute teacher. She was a real hardass with me, so naturally when it came to other children, she put the law down with them as well. One day however she got on the bad side of two female students, who turned around and accused my mother of touching them improperly. Nothing bad came of it for my mother, but that's the type of situation our Teachers have to work with everyday.
