In 25 years of interviews with his hometown paper that could only be released upon his death, former President Ford once called Jimmy Carter a "disaster" who ranked alongside Warren Harding, and said Ronald Reagan received far too much credit for ending the Cold War...

I think Ford thought Nixon's and his Cold War policy led to the end of the Cold War also but Reagan got all the credit for it.

Reagan is said to have over-delegated, not sure if Harding was all that bad when compared to Carter. As far as ex-Presidents go, Carter's got the "worst ever" title in the bag.

Never was a big Gerald Ford fan, he was the quintessential RINO, and he lost to Jimmy Carter, that's sad. Ford did get hammered in the MSM back then, the Nixon pardon was political suicide but the right thing to do and, according to the pic in the link, he aged alot better than Jimmy Carter.

Ford was mistaken. Reagan did win the Cold War and deserves full credit for it. Onliest other prez who deserves any real credit along those lines was Truman, who took a stand when it wasn't easy to do. Everybody else, except Reagan, just fell in line behind Harry.

Carter did nothing right as president and has done very little right since then. Bush I's only achievement was not to mess up TOO badly. He didn't have the passion to be a real president, liked getting along rather than standing on principle and fighting, as Reagan did.

By the time Carter left office, the Soviet Union had attained military superiority over the U.S. to the point that had the Soviet leaders had realized it, they could have subjected the U.S. to nuclear blackmail. How had the Soviet Union attained military superiority? Simple. Carter sent so much grain and other foodstuff to the Soviet Union that it was able to divert its resources from feeding its people to expanding its military. See Reagan's War by Peter Schweizer for more details.

Also, Carter provided financial and military aid to the Sandinistas to help them establish their murderous Communist dictatorship in Nicaragua.

President Ford once called Jimmy Carter a "disaster"

The understatement of the century.
