A Sacramento area woman held her wee for a Nintendo Wii and died.

The contest: Hold the most water without going to the bathroom.

The station: 107.9 "The End" (http://www.endonline.com/jocks_content/morningrave/index.php) (I didn't make that up)

The woman was at work and left home early, complaining of being in a massive amount of pain. Now she's dead.

Three DJs fired after woman dies following water-drinking contest

<!-- END HEADLINE/DECK & SUBHEADLINE/SUBDECK --><!-- START WRITER CREDIT-->By AARON DAVIS, Associated Press Writer
Tuesday, January 16, 2007

A Sacramento area radio station fired 10 employees Tuesday, including three morning disc jockeys, after a mother of three died following an on-air water-drinking contest last week at the station's studios.

The hosts of KDND-FM's "Morning Rave" — who go by the on-air names Trish, Maney and Lukas — were fired a day after the station announced it was suspending the show and investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Jennifer Lea Strange.

Strange, 28, died after participating in a water-drinking contest on the program.

"Effective immediately, the 'Morning Rave' program is canceled and ten employees are no longer with the station."

Gotta go some way, that way's as good as any other.

I guess. But don't know. I mean, it's hard to know for sure, ya see what I'm trying to say? I mean, you go along, living your life, minding your own bidness, not bothering nobody, keeping to yourself, staying outta others' affairs, leaving people alone, avoiding giving offense, not hurting the neighbor's dawg nor shooting at his cat, nor peeing in his yard, nor burning your trash so that the wind carries the ashes all over his place, and not playing your music loud, or revving your pipes, nor ... uh, now I don't recollect what ...

The news has been unclear on this one, did she die from a water overdose or something else?

Not to make fun of the dead, but it reminds me of this old environmental scare:

The winner of the contest complained of the same symptoms as Strange, but she didn't die. The winner was a lot bigger than Strange. The winner said that she felt as if her head was going to explode. Strange went home early from work complaining of being in immense pain.

And no responsibility is placed on these idiots who risk their own health for an overpriced toy?

One wonders if there are limits to what stupid, greedy people will do to win the latest pop culture trinket... If the disc jockeys had demanded oral sex for the prize, would the contestants (male and female) be lined out the door on their knees?

Authorities Investigate Case of Woman Dying After Water-Drinking Contest

Thursday, January 18, 2007

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a woman believed to have been killed by drinking too much water in a radio station contest.

On a tape of the Jan. 12 show, disc jockeys on KDND-FM's "Morning Rave" joke about the possible dangers of consuming too much water, at one point alluding to a college student who died during such a stunt in 2005.

A listener called the show to warn the DJs that the stunt was dangerous and that someone could die.

"Yeah, we're aware of that," one of them said.

Another DJ laughed: "Yeah, they signed releases, so we're not responsible. We're OK."

"And if they get to the point where they have to throw up, then they're going to throw up, and they're out of the contest before they die, so that's good, right?" another one said.....http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,244401,00.html

I drink 5-8 bottles of water a day (but not Dasani, that stuff is awful).

I've yet to die.

Then again, I allow myself ample restroom-breaks.

It's sad. The lady was trying to win something for her kids and how many people knew water would kill you?

DesertFox

Not I. In the Sixties some college prof urged kids to get high by drinking water. He said it would take a lot of water but it wouldn't hurt you and was better by far than getting high on grass or coke or heroine or LSD or banana peels or dog shit.

Actually, he never said dog shit

My dad told us kids that drinking a lot of water would be deadly. This was back in the '70s!

Just because someone signs a stupid release form doesn't mean that you cannot be sued. This is a prime example of that. Release forms are just psychological protection. They're somewhat worthless, especially when there is gross negligence involved.

I doubt that there is a jury around today that would not find the radio station responsible for her death....especially here in the land of fruits, nuts and frozen orange juice.

Dasani made me sick. It made me throw up. I bought it at a theater and after the movie I had to throw up. It doesn't taste good at all. I don't know what's in it, but it didn't agree with me. eColi?

We like Niagra, Crystal Geyser and Arrowhead. We think Niagra tastes best because it's selling for $3.33/case at FoodMaxx. lol

Radio station may lose its license. FCC to intervene. Local TV news is working overtime covering this story, perhaps to taint the local jury pool in favor of numbnuts who killed herself.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Homicide investigators in Sacramento County, Calif., are now involved in the death of a woman who competed in a radio station contest last week.
