HE is a media darling, a paparazzi target and a source of inspiration for millions of Democrats who dream of retaking the White House in 2008. But Senator Barack Obama, the charismatic African-American who is shaking up the presidential primary race, has not impressed some of America’s most powerful black activists.

Civil rights leaders who have dominated black politics for much of the past two decades have pointedly failed to embrace the 45-year-old Illinois senator who is considering a bid to become America’s first black president.

At a meeting of activists in New York last week, the Rev Jesse Jackson, the first black candidate to run for president, declined to endorse Obama. “Our focus right now is not on who’s running, because there are a number of allies running,” Jackson said.

They won't endorse Obama because he's too light...a "high-yella" brotha who speaks "proper."

Moreover, Obama was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. His family was rich.

Yes, N-T, but as you well know, that is only a hindrance when the candidate is a conservative.

I mean, when was the last time you heard the drive-by media condemn Teddy Hick! Kennedy (D-Chivas) for being born with a silver spoon in his mouth (later replaced by his fat foot)? But they went after Bush, hammer and tongs, for the same reason.

You do remember that, don't you, my friend?

John Effin' is the richest bastid in Congress by a considerable margin over all the other filthy, and filthy rich, liberals.

Yes, but he was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he married two. ;)

Look, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson already have an uneasy relationship being two of the big fish in a large yet not infinite pond. If Obama comes in and starts siphoning away their $upport, where will they be?

I was thinking belly-up (to keep the fish analogy working), but that also brings Teddy Kennedy into the picture . . .

They may have to actually leave the plantation and go to work.

Hate to say it but, I think Sharpton and Jackson do not like Obama because he could pass the paper bag test and they cannot. I have no love for Obama, but, seems that Jackson and Sharpton might be a little guilty of inter-race racisim.

They don't like him cuz he don't kowtow to them or spend all his time stirring up racial shit.

And the last thing they want is Obama pulling their followers to the center.

Time and events have passed them by, and they react as any politician so stranded acts.

But Ted's a walrus, not a fish.Well, whatever Ted is, I wouldn't want to be in the water with him--or with Jesse or Al, for that matter. Perhaps Obama feels the same way.

That Jack$son, $harpton, and Belafonte think little of Obama speaks volumes in his favor. IMHO he couldn't ask for better endorsements.
