MADRID, Spain - Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro is in "very grave" condition after three failed operations and complications from an intestinal infection, a Spanish newspaper said Tuesday. The newspaper El Pais cited two unnamed sources from the Gregorio Maranon hospital in the Spanish capital of Madrid. The facility employs surgeon Jose Luis Garcia Sabrido, who flew to Cuba in December to treat the 80-year-old Castro.

In a report published on its Web site, El Pais said: "A grave infection in the large intestine, at least three failed operations and various complications have left the Cuban dictator, Fidel Castro, laid up with a very grave prognosis."

Cuba has released little information on Castro's condition since he temporarily ceded power in July to his brother, Defense Minister Raul Castro, until he could recover from emergency intestinal surgery, prompting much speculation and rumor in the country and around the world.

<ol><li>It's interesting that he's referred to as "Cuban dictator." I assume El Pais is not a left-wing publication?
<li>A few years ago, the Cuban doctors were saying he could live to 130. Did they know it was BS (how could they not know, since nobody has lived to that age in a long time?), and if so, were they trying to pull the wool over someone's--that is, Fidel's--eyes--and if so, why?
<li>If Cuba has a superior socialist medical system, why did Fidel go to Spain for treatment?</ol>

When he's in the grave, his condition will be satisfactory.

It's two hours past my bedtime, and for the last hour I've kept asking myself why I don't stop yawning, shut down and tucker my head.

Now I know why I'm still awake: Waiting to hear the news that Castro is ready to kick off.

On the serious side, I wonder what will happen in Cuba when he's finally gone. Raul is a drunk; no other posible replacement ever gets mentioned in the news.

I guess who ever is head honcho in the military will kep a firm grip on communism and things will continue apace.

Intestinal infection? I'm sure it's painful as hell, too.

He's literally rotting from the inside. How appropriate.

Some people deserve to be dead.

yippeee... [sarcasm]

He only managed to see ten Presidents (outliving six of them).

That man exported "terrorism" (back then we called it "war") for 40 years -- killing only God knows how many, lived only 90 miles off our shores...

And yet will end up dying of old age infirmities while we try to give freedom to the typically Arab Iraqi people.

His funeral will be a must do photo op for every global leftist elitist from Beijing to Zimbabwe to Hollywierd. The front row will include teary-eyed Huge Ego Chavez and Jimmuh Cahtuh. You know, that loser ex-president who Castro made an international fool out of in the Muriel boat lift fiasco?

I heard that. I'm sure Castro's death will be deemed as a "tragic loss" by the libz.

Huh,

:smirky:

Typical, as in...

"Give us your money to rebuild our country, but keep your mouths shut when it comes to ideas about freedom and justice."

"I don't care if your soldiers die, just make sure I can shop today without worrying about gunfire and bombs."

"Death to Israel!"

"Islam can never be separated from politics!"

"It is completely proper to beat a woman black and blue if she burns dinner."

"It is completely proper to beat a woman to death if she looks at another man."

"I don't support martyrs who blow themselves up in crowded markets, but I sympathize with them."

"Any attack upon an Arab by a Westerner is an attack on Islam!"

"Americans are responsible for Arab oppression and death in the Middle East. And our leaders are infallible which is why we never object to their atrocities."

"I'm an honorable person even if I support the 9/11 attacks."

Uncontrollable, I sincerely doubt the "typical " Arab in Iraq thinks that way and I'd bet next month's paycheck that you have no basis for saying that apart from it being your opinion.

Well, the basis for some of the statements are polls conducted of Arabs/Muslims (the results of one of which were linked to by a thread on this board). The rest...I simply gauge it based upon the screaming throngs in Arab streets.

Besides, does it matter? It sure doesn't matter to those on this board who clamor for us to "kill all the Muslims" -- including those that don't think that way.

And, finally, you can bet that most who don't think that way would keep their mouths shut while their brethren do or say as I describe above.

And that's the biggest problem of all.

This is one man for whom I have zero compassion. I'm glad he is suffering and I can't wait for him to finally DIE and rid this planet of his noxious presence.

I know God must be frowning on me rather severely right now, but I'm afraid I am adamand in my opinion.

The sooner Castro dies, the better for the world. In fact, this scumbag should never have been born.

WASHINGTON - Cuban President Fidel Castro (http://search.news.yahoo.com/search/news/?p=Fidel+Castro), ailing and out of sight, has been meeting with a trickle of international guests in recent months, a U.S. government official said Tuesday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive situation with Cuba, declined to say with whom Castro was meeting. But the meetings, generally with visitors from Latin America, suggest he may be setting the stage for a transition of power that he hopes will protect the government he has built over four decades. One wonders if he met with Mama Moonbat.

If Cuba has a superior socialist medical system, why did Fidel go to Spain for treatment?

Funny that question should be asked . . .

MIAMI (Reuters) - Cuban leader Fidel Castro has long prided himself on Cuba's doctors and free public health care system, but that system seems to have let him down after he fell ill in July , U.S.-based doctors said on Tuesday.

Based on a report in Tuesday's edition of Spain's El Pais newspaper, the doctors -- who have no first-hand knowledge of Castro's condition -- said Castro had received questionable or even botched care at the hands of health experts on his communist-ruled island.

"It's not a good story. Too bad they didn't send him to Miami for surgery," said Dr. Charles Gerson, a clinical professor of medicine in the gastroenterology division of New York's Mt. Sinai School of Medicine.Reuters (http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=worldNews&storyid=2007-01-17T001825Z_01_N16234069_RTRUKOC_0_US-CUBA-CASTRO-DOCTORS.xml&src=rss&rpc=22)

MADRID, Spain - Fidel Castro himself told surgeons not to perform a colostomy, opting instead for a course of surgery that produced a complication leaving the Cuban leader in far worse condition, according to a newspaper report Wednesday.

After removing an inflamed piece of Castro's large intestine in an operation last year, the doctors connected the remainder directly to his rectum, rather than attaching a colostomy bag, El Pais said, quoting two medical sources at Madrid's Gregorio Maranon hospital. The operation failed when a suture burst.

"The Cuban dictator and his advisers are the ones who decided on the surgical technique that has led to the complications," the paper said.

While the newspaper article did not name the sources, one of the journalists who wrote it told The Associated Press that both were doctors at the hospital. The journalist, Oriel Guell, said none of the information in articles published Tuesday and Wednesday came from surgeon Jose Luis Garcia Sabrido, who flew to Cuba in December to treat the 80-year-old Castro.Source (http://my.earthlink.net/article/int?guid=20070117/45aefed0_3ca6_1552620070118892436183)

Apparently he didn't want to be left holding the bag.

Castro must be on his deathbed, all the other socialist dictators are voicing their concerns:

Chavez says Castro is fighting for life
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Friday that Fidel Castro is "battling for his life" and said he spoke with the Cuban leader for nearly half an hour several days ago

Chavez, a close ally an admirer of Castro, compared Castro's attempt to recover from an unspecified medical condition to efforts in the 1950s, when Castro was a guerrilla in Cuba's eastern mountains fighting the government he would overthrow.

"Fidel is in the Sierra Maestra again, battling for his life," Chavez said after attending a summit of South American leaders in Rio.

His death announcement's will come at anytime, but Raul'll be no better. ALL the axis of evil should attend this funeral.
