Looks like menu prices are on the rise too.

Or, maybe we could just ignore this for the sake of keeping the rhetoric alive.

New wage boost puts squeeze on teenage workers across Arizona

Employers are cutting back hours, laying off young staffers

Oh, for the days when Arizona's high school students could roll pizza dough, sweep up sticky floors in theaters or scoop ice cream without worrying about ballot initiatives affecting their earning power.

That's certainly not the case under the state's new minimum-wage law that went into effect last month.

Some Valley employers, especially those in the food industry, say payroll budgets have risen so much that they're cutting hours, instituting hiring freezes and laying off employees.

And teens are among the first workers to go.

It also cited comments by noted economist Milton Friedman, who maintained that high teen unemployment rates were largely the result of minimum-wage laws.

"After a wage hike, employers seek to take fewer chances on individuals with little education or experience," one institute researcher told lawmakers in 2004.

Tom Kelly, owner of Mary Coyle Ol' Fashion Ice Cream Parlor in Phoenix, voted for the minimum-wage increase. But he said, "The new law has impacted us quite a bit."

It added about $2,000 per month in expenses. The store, which employs mostly teen workers, has cut back on hours and has not replaced a couple of workers who quit.

Have no fear. The DimlyCraps will come forth with a tax-payer funded social program that will provide big bucks to these poor teens...... and then they can just hang out on street corners and do drugs.:flame::flame:

Cheer up, one of the presidential candidates in France wants to raise the minimum wage there to $2,000 a month.

Well, they need that much to keep buying cars to replace the ones that the Muzzies torch by the hundreds.

That's not entirely untrue, heh heh. The public pinkos know how to scam the dummies who elected them. Just print more money and hand it out to the poor, downtrodden, lazy SOBs who don't mind sitting on their fat asses and leeching off the working taxpayers. Soon we will be using that paper to wipe our asses.

Inspirational subject.

I'm helping someone write a research paper. Can I get a few solid/reputable links to studies showing detrimental effects of artificial wage hikes? Google is giving me less-than-laudable links so far.

Gracias in advance.

I did something a few years back. I believe BLS had the best stuff.

You can write to the con artists at the nation's capital. They'll provide you with lots of benefits from the wage hike.

Sorry. It's the coffee talking.

Anybody notice how the assholes can vote a payraise for themselves without having to increase their work output? What work output? Wait a minute.

But weren't we told that if the minimum wage were raised, there would be more employment, since low-wage earners would be encouraged to get back into the job market now that they could make enough money to live on?

What I tell folks who complain that they don't make enough money that are making minimum wage..."Go back to school." I did!

Then again, if Democrats have their way, those who didn't will be making as much as or more than me.:flame:

Absolutely necessary for this subject is Characteristics of Minimum Wage Workers 2005 (http://www.bls.gov/cps/minwage2005.htm) which breaks down those who make the Fed min wage or less by age, sex, race, education.

Keeping in mind that state minimum wages are different, here are the lists for Current (http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm) and Historical (http://www.dol.gov/esa/programs/whd/state/stateMinWageHis.htm) State minimum wages, and Tipped employees minimum wages by state (http://www.dol.gov/esa/programs/whd/state/tipped.htm). To look at the effects of the State changes, compare to State labor force statistics (http://data.bls.gov/PDQ/outside.jsp?survey=la) (1976 to present), and State payroll employment (http://data.bls.gov/PDQ/outside.jsp?survey=sm) (1990 to present).

I also recommend: Minimum Wages, Employment and Monopsonistic Competition (http://www.bls.gov/ore/abstract/ec/ec030060.htm) which claims that the effects of a minimum wage depends on the labor market, and Do Some Workers Have Minimum Wage Careers (http://www.bls.gov/opub/mlr/2001/05/art2exc.htm) which uses a longitudnal survey to show how long people tend to earn min wage jobs.

This site (http://www.swlearning.com/economics/policy_debates/increase_minimum.html) has a lot of links pro and con.

Thanks for everyone's assistance. I was trying to advise this person, which would make a better research paper (high school kid): Global Warming Fallacy or Min Wage fallacies...

The easier one to research and write on is the obvious choice. Any opinions on this question? I'm tempted to say that GW is the easier one to mock.

Nat-Tex and sunsettommy can give you tons of stuff on GW. I would personally pick minimum wage, but simply because they could probably more directly relate to it, with teenage jobs and all.

Also....When it comes to "numbers" you can make em say whatever you want. Tax lawyers do it very well....as does the Liberal Pollsters....:flame:
