May 8, 2003 -- Brush off those joysticks - Atari's back.
The French-American gaming company Infogrames changed its name, and ticker symbol, to Atari yesterday to help revive its video game business.
"Atari is the brand that means videogames," said the new Atari's CEO and Chairman Bruno Bonnell.

Sounds like it's not a comeback or return at all. Just some other company trying to capitalize on the name. French, huh? I sure hope they hedge their bets and look at other markets too. French stuff hasn't been faring too well here lately.

Kinda makes me wonder if they'll bring all the old games back (in newer versions of course) or if they are just using the name. I guess we'll see.

Yep. I have a fully functional Odyssey˛ with a bunch of games. The graphics were crude and the sound was the usual boops and beeps, but the damn thing was addictive. <br clear="all" />

I sure remember Magnavox Odyssey. I was too young to remember but the fam snapped up one for about $100 back in '72. Loved the table tennis and shooting gallery add on.

I am very impressed, Doc. Very nice. I always wanted one of those. They are prolly worth a mint today.
