He's out of surgery and doing well. I'd like to dedicate a thread to him. What I remember most about the Great One is:
1) Got us on the road to world peace
2) Economic recovery
3) Made Americans believe in themselves and the greatness of our country.

One has to wonder what shape this country would be in without Ronald Reagan. Carter slashed military spending, and the Marines in partucular suffered a severe lack of much needed equipment and extremely low morale. Re-enlistments in all branches of the military were also at an all time low. Then came Ronald Reagan. We finally got what we needed, and for the first time in a long time, the Marines didn't have to rely on Army hand-me-downs to get the job done. New jets, tanks, vehicles, rifles, helmets, barracks, you name it. Almost everything was brand new and for good reason: If you're expected to be a "Force In Readiness," you ought to have the best and most up to date equipment to do the job safely and efficiently. One of the reasons why the US won the Cold War is because Reagan had the Russians terrified. For 8 years they were absolutely terrified of Ronald Reagan because they knew he was a man of great character, which meant he would keep his word. Plus he had control of the best trained and equipped military on the planet. In order to have peace, one must prepare to go to war. And so it was while Reagan was President.
Get well soon, boss.

Yes, Ronnie cleaned up the incredible mess of an economy made by Carter. When Ronnie took office, he inherited a 17% inflation rate (true mess). The nice thing about Inauguration Day for Ronnie was..... the Iranians broke a speed record getting the US Hostages out of their country, as they (rightfully) feared Ronnie's first act (right from the podium during his Inauguration Speech) would be some military action against Iran.
Nothing like one's enemies fearing you. It works in World Politics.
Short List of Ronnie's successes:
1. rebuilt the military from what was called "The Hollow Years" (under Carter the Clown) back into the fearsome force later used by George Bush to free Kuwait.
2. destroyed the USSR at the same time he rebuilt the miliary, and never had to fire a shot.
3. restored US pride in itself.... which had wallowed since the end of the Vietnam War.
To me, Ronnie's Election was evidence the "Silent Majority" (us) had finally woke up (remember the 40+ State Reagan Landslide?). Enough Conservatives are mad, and they aren't "silent" anymore. More will join us on the way.
There will be NO more easy gains for the Liberals.... they're going to have to fight tooth and nail for everything from now on.
I do think we are in a defacto War right now. It is a war fought not with guns, napalm, orbital strike, or the like. It is a war with casualties, but no real shooting. It is a war of ideas. Welfare State versus Self Worth. Slavery versus Freedom. Legalized Theft (taxation) over keeping what one earns for themselves and their families, and passing that intact to one's family when one leaves this phase of existence. Tyranny versus Freedom.
Victory or Death. Personally, I'm ready for either. I will not live a slave. I will not go to the Camps.
I'm getting a little "heavy" there. Time to lighten up, dude. Like I told the Warlady..... I get really, really touchy when it comes to my personal freedom. I've seen a bit of what slavery would be like (ie. military). I ain't going to be a slave. There are worse things than dying. That's just one of them.
I expect we will win this war. I've been "in the trenches" since I "woke up" in 1973 (yes, one of the early ones).... working on getting enough citizen-allies to win back the USA. It's happening.
The Cold War is over. The USSR is gone. It's time for the Imperial Federal Government to "die" as well, and for the people to resume their rightful, Constitutionally mandated, role and power. We have seen an evil beast grow from the seeds Franklin Delano Roosevelt planted, and it is long past time to weed that garden, and "prune" the Federal Government.
The President, Congress, and the Supreme Court are OUR servants.... not vice-versa.
THAT's what Ronnie gave to me.... the place to start that process. He wiped out the USSR..... it's up to people like me to finish taking out the trash (ie. from Washington DC).
The trouble with modern US Foreign Relations is.... we utilize way too much BS and not enough napalm.

You can either believe that the Iranians feared Reagan or that their was a October Surprise involving George Bush and William Casey meeting with Iranians in Paris where they agreed to keep the hostages until the 20th.
The Islamic dictatorship in Iran was extremely conservative. Do you think they would cooperate more with a liberal President (Carter) or a conservative President (Reagan). Which candidate would have more in common with those Iranian bastards?
Still, I wish Reagan the best of health and the best of luck becoming the President who lived the longest. It's really sad what has happened to him.
