OMAHA, Neb. -- Nebraska and other states are suing an Internet billing company over their charges to users.
State officials said Alyon Technologies tried to charge people for visiting pornographic Web sites that the user never visited.
Nebraska's Attorney General said that when people received an e-mail or pop-up window from the company, a small program was downloaded to their computer.
The program from that point on charged the computer user $4.99 per minute while they were on the Internet.
"Nebraska consumers can rest assured that we're working to protect them from companies that use predatory methods. These types of violations will not go unanswered and we will seek to bring those who violate the law to justice," said Bruning.
The Attorney General's Office encourages consumers who believe they may have come into contact with this program to contact their Internet service providers.
If you were a victim of this practice, you can register a complaint at the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General's office at (800) 727-6432 or online at http://www.ago.state.ne.us
