Apparently it's not enough that Bush gives illegals a free ride into the US and tax dollars here, "compassionate conservatism" wants to make sure they get a nice "affordable" second home back in their countries of origin.

Bush announced a series of steps to help the region:

_A program to make housing more affordable will be expanded with an additional $385 million. The United States already has provided more than $100 million through the Overseas Private Investment Corp. to help underwrite mortgages to working families in Mexico, Brazil, Chile and the countries of Central America.

OPIC is one of those federal agencies that has long outlived its original usefulness and purpose, and has morphed into some hideous reincarnation in a futile attempt to stay relevant. Like all useless agencies and offices, however, it has vested stakeholders that continue to successfully lobby taxpayer dollars from Congress.

OPIC was one of the agencies that Reagan wanted to abolish way back when, as I recall.

Hmm... weren't we told back in 2000 that only Bush 'can win'?

Hooray! for 'winning'!

Bush is slowly morphing into Jimmi Carter. Tax money spent on any country in South America is wasted and unappreciated. He should spend the money on our run down, antiquated, rat/roach infested military hospitals. What the hell is he thinking? He rode the military when he needed it but forgot those who gave an arm, leg or both. I have had it with this moron.

That's a damn good question!

President Bush is slowly morphing into a Democrat. The only difference is he has an (R) next to his name instead of a (D).

After all George and his other brother Bill, have a lot in common. They are two of Bush seniors favorite people.

oldshooter, I think George may just be letting his cover fall. I don't think there was much difference between them from the beginning. To his credit, George did let the Military run the war for the first week or so.....

At the rate Bush is going even that damn Pelosi could win the White House. WTF is that man thinking? Who could he possibly owe so much to as to do this to us?

Geez I gotta go barf on the cat over this one..........

I have a tendancy to give people the benefit of the doubt and take them at their word in the beginning, until they demonstrate to me that they are undeserving of my trust... That is the conclusion I have slowly come to concerning Mr Bush... There's a knife in our collective back and it has his fingerprints all over it...

As for the Latin American giveaway mortgage program, let's all be realistic and lighten up... I mean, we all know that virtually none of that money will ever be actually used to build houses in Latin America... Let me remind us all of the Rule of Foreign Aide:

Foreign Aide is the transfer of money from poor people in rich countries to rich people in poor countires...

That money, we all know, will go into the pockets of the dictators and bureaucrats of those Banana Republics...

And yes, Mr Bush is looking more and more like Mr Carter everyday... One wonders what "Panama Canal" Mr Bush has plans of giving away before he leaves office...

The last time he showed any defference to Conservatives was when he bowed to our will over Harriett Myers... And that was before the '04 elections... If that Supreme Court seat had come open after the elctions, I suspect Mr Alito would have never come on the radar... Ms Myers would have been the replacement for O'Conner and we would be told to shut the hell up and sit down - Which is precisely what he has told us since the election...

We are the aging wife he no longer needs...

It is foolhardy for him to think that he can appease the left. His dad tried that once.. remember, 'Read my lips.. no new taxes'?

To do so, is self-destructive.
