Will a blood clot force Cheney to step down?

Dick Cheney has been diagnosed with a blood clot in his left leg, leading to speculation he will be forced to resign as U.S. Vice-President.

The 66-year-old has a history of major health problems, including four heart attacks, and has undergone quadruple-bypass surgery.

...

'An ultrasound test revealed a deep venous thrombosis or blood clot in his left lower leg,' said an official report. The vice-president has been put on blood thinning medication and has returned to work.

While the White House is trying to play down the situation, the condition is obviously serious and will again trigger speculation that Mr Cheney could be forced to resign through poor health.

Blood clots that form deep in the legs can become killers if they break off and float into the lungs.

...

Now I know Cheney has had many such episodes, and this speculation is nothing new. But here's what I wanted to discuss:

If Cheney steps down, that makes Condoleezza Rice vice president. Personally, I think that would take a lot of the wind out of the sails of Barack Hussein Obama and Hillary, seeing as how she's black and female. It would sort of make the idea of a black person and/or a female in that level position a little less novel, so to speak, and perhaps take away some of that hype from the people who would vote for one or the other SOLELY because we've never had a black or female president. What do you think?

Looking ahead, it could be a golden opportunity to groom a Rebublican successor. But with Bush's record (Harriett Myers), we would just get some dork loser whom the Rats would gladly confirm so as not to have a Pub champion in '08.

If it comes to McPain , Rudy or Condi ...

I'd go Condi ... She would be a compromise of Conservatism I "might" be able to swallow ... still , Fred Thompson is my "front runner" ...

Unlikely to be either McInsane or Rudy. Condi, however, would be the smart choice - politically. The democRATS won't stand for such a perceived political victory for Bush and will do anything to derail such a plan.

OK... I'm not curious as to what everyone's choice would be; what I wanted to know is what everyone thought Rice becoming VP would do to Hillary and Obama's chances, by making a black and/or female at that position not as foreign of an idea anymore to the people who would vote for one or the other SOLELY because we've never had a black or female president.

I believe that Rice in the VP would change the field on the (R) side ... possibly in the wishy center ... but , not on the (D) side ... she's just a war-mongering Bush lapdog to the Dems and the msm ...

Hmm.. good question. It would take some wind out of their sails, but enough to derail their chances?

Are you assuming that she would then run for President? Or is the question based on her assuming the position of VP alone?

It's just based on the position of VP. I'm assuming Rice would never run for Pres.

Here's what I'm trying to say...

As stupid as it sounds, there are a lot of people out there (mainly women, and especially ones around my age it seems) who would vote for Hillary soley because a female has never been President (or VP). Likewise, there are even more people who would vote for Obama because they feel like the thought of having a black president sounds new, fresh, and appealing.

So what I'm asking is, do you think that if Condoleezza Rice would become VP, that having a black woman in that high of an office for the first time would sort of get all the giddyness out about the thought of such a thing, and thereby taking away some of the "new," "fresh" appeal from Hillary and Obama? Of course I'm talking about from the perspective of the wishy-washy center and the MSM.

Ahhh.. I gotcha. Hmm.. I would say no. Because liberals, whom are affected by such things as 'giddyness', will still be driven to vote for a Hillary or a Obama (albeit, only 1/2 black) because Condi doesn't really qualify as either a woman or a black because of her perceived ideaology. The media will see to that.

As I have said before, I see absolutely NOTHING that recommends Ms Rice to be anything but a diplomat... We know nothing of her position on the 2nd Amendment, Private Proterty rights, Illegal Aliens, etc, etc, etc...

As a Diplomat she appears to be an excellent performer - She states the President's policies clearly and consicely to foreign governments... But that is a far cry from qualification to be President... And we would be foolish in the extreme to become caught up in a pissing contest with the Left to see who can produce the "most minority candidate"... That's THEIR twisted game, not ours...

Let them put up incompetent clowns based on the color of their skin or their genetalia... We must continue to offer solid Conservative Leadership as our one and only standard...

Of course I'm talking about from the perspective of the wishy-washy center and the MSM.No, it wouldnt... Because, as you recall, it was the Republicans who created the first BLACK Secretary of State (Colin Powell) and the first BLACK FEMALE Secretary of State (Ms Rice)... And the giddiness didnt go away then did it?

What makes one believe that elevating her to the office of VP would somehow significantly neutralize the giddiness in a way that Secretary of State didnt? The Giddiness is a product of the Left, and specifically the Leftist MSM... Regardless of how logical it appears to us that the Right has already broken those barriers, the Left does not see in terms of logic...

They reject any Black who subscribes to Conservative thought as being Black - the same applies to women... They simply define them as aberations for politcal convenience and continue to pretend to hold some God-given lock on those perceived minority divisions...

What I find as ironic is the fact that the political side who espouses to be for equality for all races and sexes, is the one party who desperately maintains these differences and milks them at every opportunity...

Where is it?Certainly not in the MSM's definition of "front-runners"... Which is why we must not allow them to choose our candidate...

Why would Condi ascend into the Vice Presidency? Seems to me, that when Spiro Agnew was forced to resign, Nixon hand-picked his successor (Ford).

As for her being chosen to succeed VP Cheney (FTR - I don't think he'll resign, unless he has absolutely no other choice), I see her as a mediocre VP. Bush definitely will NOT put a conservative in the VP slot. In fact, I'd be surprised if he didn't pick Guilliani or McPain.

I don't remember which member said it but it made sense, that W wouldn't pick anyone who had a legit shot at becoming POTUS because of the excessive amount of baggage from the administration. As they said on 'O brother where art thou, we need us some reform!

Well, they (Hillary or Obama) may not be too happy about Condi getting picked 'cuz that would mean that THEY wouldn't be the first ones @ that position, possibly?
