Will Katie Couric ever click on The CBS Evening News?

As the former NBC Today star passes the six-month mark still stuck deep in third place, that question is under debate.

Network news analyst Andrew Tyndall says it is increasingly clear Couric is a non-starter. CBS News counted on a quick fix from Couric's star power in a genre that is "reporter, not anchor, driven," Tyndall says. "She hasn't been a game changer."

I think the pressure is getting to Katie. I saw her doing the CBS headline news just before 3:00 CST one day last week and she looked as if she had aged 30 years since I last saw her. Her hair was straggly and she really looked bad.

She's always looked bad, waaaay before CBS. That's why I never understood the promotion, but I never understood her success prior to that either.

CBS should have hired a blonde power whore with some big cannons. The internet is where more Americans are getting their news, not the boob tube. The dying networks are about voyeurism. Its eye porn, only.

Seems like the obvious just slapped the shit out of the dumb hiring managers at See B.S.

Katie Couric, prior to her little promotion, was the most annoying thing in the morning since the alarm clock.

I don't think if CBS brought Uncle Walter back it would make any difference. The anchorcritters are basically irrelevant. It's a 22-minute newscast to begin with, and they're on for perhaps a third of that (i.e., 7+ minutes a night.

Given that Dan Blather all but admitted he didn't really care if he was reporting the truth, and there is growing evidence that Uncle Walter did everything he could to turn American public opinion against the Vietnam War by making it look like we were losing when in fact we were winning, the reliability of the broadcast networks as news sources is sorely lacking, and is probably forever diminished greatly if not lost altogether.

Pam Anderson always gets my undivided attention whether she's on the news or on the newsstand. Never heard her anchor the news, but she can dang sure anchor ... never mind.

It's all about context.

Katie Couric always looks like she just got up in the morning. On the Today show, people identified with her. They figured, "Well if she can somehow find a way to act cheery then maybe I can too."

But in the afternoon people look at the same picture and think: "What the hell is that bag lady doing on television?"
